Rogers Motor Company Studebaker M-29 C Weasel - Army Personnel and Cargo Carrier, 1/12, 29C

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$115

Rare, large 1/12 scale highly pre-fabricated kit from 1945. Very high quality wood and metal scale Weasel measuring 10.5 inches long when assembled. Features pre-cut and precarved hardwood parts for the main body and deck fittings, completely formed bogie wheels, die-cut fibre bogie chassis, numerous other very thick fibre parts, metal screen and metal stock as needed, complete interior, numerous other die cut parts, completely formed tread links, clear windshield, full decals and much more. Rogers spent a significant amount of time on the 'Photo-Plan' instructions, providing photos for each step and detailed text, full size plans and parts list. The kit has never been started. Inventoried as good as possible and appears complete with all parts, decals and full instructions with plans. There are no part numbers and assembly is by the plans; so inventory is very difficult at best. Rogers was an early producer of miniature gas engines for free-flight and early radio control model kits and often had large adds for these engines in hobby magazines. The full company name on the box is listed as 'Rogers Motor Company Detroit Michigan' and the 'Scale Model Division' is listed as Tawas City, Michigan. Right at the end of WWII, Rogers made a very short journey into kit manufacturing. As you would expect from an engine manufacture, the kits were all true scale, highly prefabricated, had excellent detail and were fairly complicated. Rogers produced at least four kits - the 40MM AA Gun and Carriage (1/16 scale), Army Weasel, LST and an amazing, huge scale Sherman M4 tank with over 780 parts. These kits were likely produced in that order, with the LST being released around late 1945/early 1946. I have seen several of these kits built and they make excellent displays. And thanks to kit builder and collector Fran Fierko for some new and important kit history! Fran was able to track down the son of the designer of the five Rogers kits. Mr. John Hoenle Jr. was a master model builder who received a deferment from the draft in WWI to build recognition models for the military- some of which may still be on display at Wright-patterson AFB in Ohio. Mr. Hoenle is believed to have designed one other early kit, a civilian Chris Craft cabin cruiser. It is unknown if this kit was issued or not. Mr. Hoenle left Rogers to design promo models for Jo-Han, which is famous for their 1950s line of car kits.

Marlin Chemical and Ladder American Firefighters, 1/48, 101 FC

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$125

Very rare. In 1952 Marlin Toy Company of New York City, New York entered the plastic model business. The Revell 'Highway Pioneers' were making a huge impact on the hobby industry and the timing seemed perfect. Marlin first cut the molds in 1952 and issued the six original American Firefighters -Chemical and Ladder, Steamer, Hook and Ladder, Water Tower, Aerial Ladder and Hose Reel. The boxes were identical as a cost saving measure - similar to the Revell Highway Pioneers. Revell signed a marketing agreement with Marlin in 1953. Five of the kit were released with the Revell name and marketing name 'Collectors Kits, Closter N.J.' Revell added the horse parts as they were not originally part of the Marlin issues. The kits made excellent display pieces, but they never caught the imagination of young men like jet aircraft did. The five molds were shipped to Brazil. After a run for Kikoler (Revell Brazil's Distributor), they were shipped back to the USA but the molds were lost at sea. This is an original Marlin kit and contains the Chemical and Ladder. Molded in dark red and yellow. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Hudson Miniatures 1911 Brush Model C Delivery Old Timers, 1/16

Wood and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$75

Dated 1949. Large scale and very well detailed for that time. Features numerous die-cut and machined/cut to shape wooden parts, beautiful plastic wheels, grill, steering wheel, lights and other accessories, metal louvered hood, metal stock and parts and die-cut cardstock. Although all of Hudson's 1/16 kits are excellent, this one has even more detail than usual thanks to Hudson's engineers having access to the actual car owned by Mr. Austin Clark. This kit has never been started. The small parts are still factory bag sealed while the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete including two sheets of excellent plans/instructions. The Brush Delivery Model C was manufactured by Brush Runabout Company, which was a division of the famous United States Motors. It sold for $650 and was powered by a one cylinder 64 HP engine linked to a gear-set type two speed + reverse multiple disc clutch transmission. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.

Precisia 1769 Le Fardier and Cugnot Automobile, 1/43

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$245

Very Rare. From the late 1950s. It is very finely molded for that time and is approximately 6 inches long when assembled. Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot was a French inventor who built the world's first automobile that could carry passengers. He first built a model in 1769, then the full sized version in 1770. He was a military engineer and the French Army showed great interest as this would an ideal way to move field artillery. The model and vehicle was know as fardier a vapeur (steam dray) and it did work, although not good enough for the Army to abandone horses. In 2010 a perfect copy was built at Arts et Metiers ParisTech and it performed perfectly. This is the only assembly kit known of this remarkable and historical vehicle. It is molded in red plastic and has 63 parts. The kit has never been started. All the parts but the frame are still in the factory sealed bag. The frame is intact and complete but never sealed. The instructions are present and in 'very good++' condition. They are in French but there is an old hand-written translation (from the early 1960s) of every word included. Precisis kits are so rare and almost never turn up for sale publically (a small handful since 2009) that little is known about them beyond the fact that they are of high quality and cover unusual subjects. For years advanced collectors knew of Precisia and assumed them to be metal models...an easy mistake to make since no kits had ever seen. We have only learned in the past 18 or so years that they were plastic. Precisia also made a 1900 Tonneau Renault 4 CV, Bugatti 1927, 1899 Grobron-Brillie and 1898 Coupe Peugeot model kits.
