this 1960s issue sports some of the most dramatic and surreal Craftmaster box art. Here something has already gone terribly wrong as a British carrier is only a mile or so from an enemy warship. She launches heavily battle-damaged Buccaneers white other Buccaneers are taking heavy and unbelievably accurate fire from the enemy. One ship is already engulfed in flames as a Japanese Kate fall burning from the sky. The model is much more realistic and features a working unique rotating bomb bay, folding wings, working arresting hook and more. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The Buccaneer was the world's first purpose designed low level 'below the radar' bomber. Low level strike aircraft have a shorter airframe life limit due to the stresses of low level flying, so the Buccaneer was designed to be very strong and even had many sub-assemblies milled from solid metal.

Dated 1960. The box is in beautiful 'Excellent++' condition. The only flaws are very light wear marks and the scratch in the B-17 at engine #3. Notice the 'Sunburst' logo with no 'Famous Fighters' in the oval, which dates this kit closer to the mid 1960s. Molded in black and clear with the clear triangular 'globe' display stand. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The decals are in amazing 'near mint' condition with the only flaw being very slight yellowing. The instructions are in 'excellent' condition with typical yellowing and very slight edge wear.

From 1956 - the first and only issue of this rare holiday season gift set. Contains the A-4D Skyhawk and HRS-1 both with US Marine markings. The box has excellent color and gloss, four solid corners and no tape, price tags, torn or missing litho. However, it has the typical 'cross hatch' marks from the original ribbon that Revell shipped these kits with as well as heavy ribbon marks along the top as shown; there is also moderate wear on the top long side. Inside, the HRS-1 is molded in the correct dark blue plastic and the famous clear Revell base and correct Marines decals for this this issue. The A-4 is molded in the correct medium gray with the clear base and correct and colorful Marines markings for this kit. The instructions are correct also and show these unique decals on the models. The kits have never been started. Both are still in the factory sealed internal bags and include decals and instructions in excellent condition.
Wood Model Kit, Box Condition: VG++

Very Rare, giant 1/16 scale kit. Ideal kit for electric power and conversion to RC. This model is in the original plain but sturdy cardboard box with 'Cleveland' stamped in ink on it and the name of the kit and kit number on the left short side. The kit came from a long time collector of 1930s and 1940s models and is in exceptional condition. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood, factory cut spars & strip wood, covering material, two huge sheets of very high quality plans in never-used condition, all required wood blocks, completely finished nacelles, finished main and nose wheels, propeller blades, all required metal stock, clear material for canopy and windshield, two sheets of color insignia and more. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called 'The Aviation Craze' that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business, called Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviations great Recruiter, Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

This model is a landmark in the history of Plastic Kits. The Varney Fleet Sub is the primary candidate for the first all-plastic ship kit made in the USA. The famous HO/O train manufacture, Varney, branched out into other scale model kits at the end of WWII. In late 1945, they introduced what are thought to be the first USA produced plastic model kits - the Fleet Sub and the PT-17 Stearman. Both kits were excellent scale models given the state of modeling at that time. However, Varney was 6 years too early. The Fleet Sub and PT-17 met a cool reception when it was introduced to retailers. Hobby Shops were not sure if it would sell, and did not know how to sell it. Consequently, most retailers would not order it and those who did put them where they were not seen by the public. Distributors stopped carry the kits due to a lack of reporders. The result was inevitable - they did not sell, and Varney pulled both kits from production very quickly. Varney was committed to cutting the molds on the LST and it was released in 1946 with the same result. That marked the end of Varney's venture into non-train scale plastic models. Varney dedicated all production to HO trains and in the late 1940s they sold the molds for the Fleet Sub, the LST and the PT-17 to O-Lin. The molds underwent modification (the hull was divided into two parts instead of one) and were released by O-Lin and Lindberg. This kit is a superb, investment-grade "excellent++" example. The box top has like-new color and gloss, four solid corners with no repairs, no tape or price tags, no marks from tape or tags and no tears or other litho damage. Flaws include very light and even edge wear (as shown), very slight 'dishing' inward and very light foxing on two box sides. Inside, the kit is still as it came from the factory. The yellow parts display is 'very good++' and the only flaw is the scuffing as shown. The small parts bag is still factory sealed and factory stapled to the yellow display. The glass display stand arm is tucked into its holder. The heavy one-piece molded hull is beautiful and in rare crack-free condition and cradled into the holder. The base was factory glued to the yellow display but has come loose. It also includes the unused factory tube of Testors cement in its own holder. Very large instruction sheet is near mint and folds out to illustrate construction and offers numerous display ideas for this new medium in hobby kits. Decals were not provided with the kit. This kit was made with gray injection molded details, glass stand arm and black injection molded stand and sub hull. I have seen versions with no paint on the base and hull; however, this one has the base and hull factory painted gray. The paint is in 'near mint' condition on the hull and 'excellent' on the stand base. A rare example of a classic kit. Shipped with insurance only.
