Ever wonder what it was like to build the world's first injection molded model kits? Well, now you can thanks to Merlin Models very limited edition replica of this historic Frog Penguin kit. Nicely molded. Also includes photocopies of the original Penguin instructions. The kit has never been started and is still sealed in the internal factory bag with all paperwork. In the late 1930s, before WWII, Frog created the world's first line of injection molded plastic model kits. Since Frog stood for 'Flies Right Off the Ground' and Frog had a famous line of flying models, the world's first all injection molded kits were called Frog Penguin for the bird that does not fly. The Penguin Osprey was among the early pre-war releases by Frog. The kit is reproduced from actual Frog Penguin kits belonging to the extensive collection of the owner of Merlin Models. Only 2000 copies were made and each is serial numbered.

Original issue dated 1954 in 'excellent+' condition inside and out. The US Antique series was the first one to have real box art for the exact kit inside. This kit is from old hobby shop stock and has never been sold retail until now; but the box does has light wear as shown. Inside the box, it has not been started. All the parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag. Includes instructions. This is from the issues produced with Gowland & Gowland as it carries their 'balloon' logo on the box top a the lower right. Not long after this, the Gowland logo would disappear completely, leaving only the Revell logo. It is also worth noting that this is one of the first non-generic Highway Pioneers boxes. Earlier boxes were all the same, with the kit number and car stamped on the side, usually with a red or black rubber stamp. This box is completely dedicated to the Bentley kit, and even has advertisements for very early Pre-S issue Revell 1954 ship and aircraft kits on the long sides. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

First issue from 1956 with Northern Lights logo. This logo only appeared for one year. In 1957 it was replaced with the famous oval 'Famous Fighters' Sunburst logo. The artwork is by Jim Cox. This kit was one of a very famous line of 1/48 scale WWI aircraft kits introduced by Aurora at this time. Due to the popularity, subjects were still being released into the 1960s. Molded in glossy olive green and black. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Older but nicely molded kit of this very useful and long-lived aircraft. Features very good cockpit, full cabin with floor, seats and bulkheads (with a clear window in the cockpit bulkhead), separately molded control surface hinges, rotating wheels and propellers, optional opened or closed rear loading doors with staircase, and a paint guide & very large and extensive decals sheet for the three versions listed. The Antonov AN-14 'Little Bee' was developed to fulfill an Aeroflot need for a small, twin engined, short-ranged aircraft holding 5 to 6 passenger or 500 kg of freight for an airport to city shuttle service. The aircraft was also designed to be suitable for hire, agriculture, medical service and pilot training. Design emphasis was placed on low-maintenance, STOL performance and rough field take offs and landings. The prototype was completed in spring of 1958 and flight testing started on March 15 of the same year. After solving some typical problem, the aircraft entered series production and was very successful, fulfilling many more duties than it was ever designed for. The AN-14 was eventually phased out but replaced by the An-14M with PTL engines. At present, it's successor model, the AN-28 went into production in Poland. In 1993, PZL-Mielec developed its own improved variant, the PZL M28 Skytruck.

The series were Aircraft Through the Years, Historical Ships, Locomotives Through The Years, Antique Cars, Ships For Work and Fun, Landmarks in Transportation and Sports Cars. There were 6 aircraft in the 'Aircraft' series- Spirit of St. Louis, Wright Flyer, S-55, Spad 13, P-86 and P-51 Mustang. All were very close to 1/100 scale.

$56
Very rare kit from 1934. Stick and tissue kit almost never turn up from this early. This is a very nice model with excellent and highly detailed plans showing numerous drawings, parts layout and full-size templates, numerous detailing tips and excellent text instructions. They even have an actual photo of the fuselage being built. In addition there is a full size sheet of separate text instructions. The parts feature four sheets of printwood, strip wood in different sizes, original two colors of tissue paper, very large, colorful and comprehensive insignia sheet, fully carved wood prop, fully carved spinner and wheels, two sheets of sandpaper, a paper envelope of metal detail parts, clear canopy material with the window frames printed on, metal stock, quality strip balsa and balsa blocks and rigging cord. NOTE: the following fuselage bulkheads have been cut out and are missing but are full-size on the plans: #1, #2, #3 and #4. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts and plans present. Three other parts are neatly cut out and present. No other parts are cut. The box top is complete with all four sides and top but is tattered on and along the lower long side; there is also general wear and damage as shown. It does display better than the grade, but is rated as such due to the damage on the box sides The tray (bottom box) is 'very good-' with some wear to the edges. Inside, the superb plans are 'very good++.' They were never 'pinned down' for assembly, have no writing on them and the folds are solid (not fragile.) Flaws are a 3" closed tear and the normal yellowing.

This is a Kyosho kit made and packed in Japan in the 1960s but marketed by Kayeff Inc in California. I estimate the wingspan to be about 36 inches. This is a beautiful classic kit with a high degree of prefabrication for it's day. The kit features completely precut ribs, wheel pants, firewall, elevator, rudder and many other balsa parts (thin and very thick), die-cut plywood fuselage bulkheads, formed wire main and nose landing gear, balloon tires, metal push rods (for control line linkage), a metal hardware pack that is still sealed, numerous other wood and metal parts as needed, window material, tissue covering and more. This kit has not been started. The parts are complete, with the factory sealed ones still bag sealed and many parts still wrapped with the factory Kyosho tape. NOTE: I have lost the plans to this kit. You will need to find a set of Kyosho plans to build this model.
