Lindberg Monitor and Merrimac with Diorama Seascape Base - Great Moments In History, 70886

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$59

Very nice package with both kits, a full color poster of the battle from the original Ray Gaedke box art done in the 1950s, a nice brochure with an illustrated history of the battle, paints and brush, blue plastic seascape battle display base and full decals. Merrimac measures just shy of 13 inches long and the Monitor measures 8.25 inches long. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. These are the two American Civil war ships that spelled the end of the wooden ship age. In March of 1862, the Merrimac put to sea to raise the Union Blockade off the James River. There she sank the Cumberland and Congress. The Monitor, the Union's only ironclad and the first turret ship, was rushed to the scene. The epic battle between the two iron-clad ships ended in a draw, with the Merrimac suffering a little more damage than the Monitor. The Merrimac was blown up to avoid capture; the Monitor sank in a gale in 1862.

O-Lin Republic Seabee Amphibian, 1/48, 503

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++++

$145

Very rare kit for the advanced collector. The Seabee was produced as a high performance sport amphibian. This is a very hard-to-fine original O-lin kit in the small box and advertisement for O-lin cement on the top. Produced in 1949 or just before. O-Lin (Olin) was founded by Paul Lindberg and a Mr. Olsen - hence the company name. Although a producer of flying models in the 1930s, O-lin produced some of the earliest American injection molded kits in the late 1940s. In 1950 the partnership may have ended, because all branding was changed to Lindberg and Paul Lindberg. Inside, the kit is as new. It is molded in high gloss light gray and has the correct decals and instructions. The kit has never been started and is inventoried complete with all parts, instructions and decals.

Aurora Russian Mig-19, 1/48, 66-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$129

Dated 1958 with fantastic Jo Kotula artwork; however, the lack of 'Famous Fighters' in the oval boarder logo means that this kit is from the early 1960s. Molded in a stunning gloss dark green and clear plastic and includes the Aurora two-piece clear 'triangle' base display stand. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Instructions and decals are both in remarkable 'excellent+++' condition. Please note that the box top displays as 'near mint' but is graded only 'very good' because there are tape residue (not tears, residue) at the center of the two long sides.

Academy Boeing B-52H Stratofortress - With GMA-87A Skybolt / AGM-69 SRAM / AGM-28 Hound Dog / ADM-20 Quail Missiles, 1/144, 4432

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$38

Features all recessed panel line detail, all the missiles listed and 5 extra clear display stands for each. Includes decals for camo aircraft shown on the box artwork. Never started. Some parts are still in the factory sealed bag; the trees that are not sealed have been inventoried complete. Includes decals and instructions. The Skybolt was a plan to deliver an ALBM (Air Launched Ballistic Missile) from a B-52 to greatly enhance it's survivability. Skybolt failed 5 of 6 initial tests, but finally was successful. However, the program was canceled due to the availability of the Polaris SLBM. Plans to equip the RAF Vulcan with Skybolt fell through and left with British with no modern nuclear force, causing them to adapt the Polaris SLBM and passing strategic nuclear capability from the RAF to the RN. AGM-28 Hound Dog was a sleek design to help B-52 penetrate thick SAM defenses. Hound Dog could use it's engines to help the B-52 during take off and then could be refueled from the B-52's tanks. This was an important point as the B-52 carried 2 of these missiles at 5 tons each. Hound Dog had a range of 200 to 500 miles (depending on launch height) at Mach 2.0 and an accuracy of one mile at those ranges. The warhead was 4 megatons. SRAM was a nuclear-armed short range missile carried in quantity of 20. SRAM was designed to blast holes in defenses in front of the B-52 and for the final target. Quail was a decoy that would mimic the B-52 with radar reflectors, infrared, radar repeaters and chaff decoys. Quail did reach operational status and operated on some Hound Dog-equipped B-52s.
