The Japanese copy of the Me-163 Komet was a last ditch attempt to stop the B-29 raids. Gliding tests went well, but on it's first powered flight, the motor quit and the aircraft crashed. The end of the war stopped further development. Well molded injection kit with fine recessed surface detail, photoetched brass parts, film instruments, very good cockpit, optional extended or retracted tail wheel, wheeled take-off/handling dolly and more. Includes two factory-sealed and very large sets of aftermarket Bird of Time Decals for the top of one wing and the bottom of the other. This famous design and superb flier was re-engineered in this issue for lighter weight and easier building. It features a 3-meter split wing for easy transportation, unique airfoil that produces lift almost out to the tips, full moving stabilator with internal control linkage, all balsa structure with fully sheeted leading edge, die-cut balsa and plywood parts, many factory-cut balsa parts, wood stock as required, excellent full-size plans and more. Inside, the kit is exactly as it left the factory. It is never started and the parts that were factory sealed are still in the clear sealed bags. The larger parts were never sealed and are inventoried complete. Includes all paperwork. NOTE: this kit came from the factory in a very heavy and sturdy cardboard box. Unless you specify otherwise, this kit will be wrapped in heavy brown paper and shipped exactly like that (without an external box). In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Mid to late 1960s issue of this superb flyer. This is one of the famous Carl Goldberg designs of a cabin-class competition endurance model. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with die-cut printwood parts, fully finished leading and trailing edges for the wings, hardware, pre-formed wire gear struts, metal propeller shaft/rubber hook, fully formed wheels, plastic propeller, rubber motor, wooden stock as required, clear window material, color insignia sheet, tissue and detailed full size plans with building instruction notes. The kit has never been started and is complete. These aircraft were common in the 1930s when the sport of free-flight model airplanes reached it's zenith. It was not uncommon for these models to fly for 45 minutes or more on rubber power alone - many flew out of site, and it became common practice to write your name, address and phone number on the covering tissue.
