The early issue from the late 1950s or early 1960s. Classic motorized kit with over 100 moving parts. All internal cardboard and cello display packing is present. When built, all major internal parts move via electric motor and spark plugs (red lights) flash in time. This kit has never been started. The small metal parts and hardware are still factory sealed. I did a complete inventory on all clear, red, black and metallic colored parts and they are complete. Does include the very rare Renwal plastic cement. Please NOTE that the box only grades as 'Poor++.' The very top of the box (shown) is intact, but the rest of the box was in about 8 pieces and is neatly taped together with clear tape. Three sides panels are complete, but the right short one is missing (2) 2" long sections on the far left and far right; they have been replaced with white cardboard. The box bottom is complete but also taped together. Summary: the actual kit is excellent but the box is not in collectible condition.

This is a modern, deluxe kit from The Vintage Model Co. in Great Britain. Features precision laser cut balsa wood parts, scale appearance, covering tissue, propeller, rubber motor, decals, PVA wood glue, accurately printed plans and full assembly instructions. This particular aircraft was being piloted by Major C E M Pickthorn MC on the 10th November 1918, when he destroyed a Fokker DVII close to the town of Chimay in Belgium. After the war it was sold as surplus to be used for skywriting, then stored for many years before being restored to flying condition in the 1950s and again in the 1970s. In 2007 it was extensively refurbished and is (at time of writing) displayed and flown by the Shuttleworth Collection based at the Old Warden Aerodrome in Bedfordshire, England.

The fascinating history of this ship is told by Commander Edward P. Stafford, USN, in his legendary book "The Big E - The Story of the USS Enterprise."

This model has many operating features- detailed engines with removable cowls, retracting landing gear, movable control surfaces, full crew and more. NOTE: this kit has very neat and minor assembly. The two fuselage halves and wing halves have been very neatly tacked together at a few tiny points. The pilot is glued to the seat. There is one dot of glue on the fuselage but that is all.
