Berkeley Stinson Sentinel (Army L-5 Flying Jeep) Flying Model Airplane Kit, 1/12

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+++

Sold

Big 1/12 scale model with a 34 inch wingspan. Originally designed as a gas powered model for free flight or control line, or can be converted to electric power and modern RC (radio control) gear. Features rubber wheels, covering material, clear windows, full size plans, formed wire parts, full size plans, die cut balsa and plywood parts and more. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

UPC North American F-86D Sabre Dog (ex-Marusan), 1/50, 5051-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair++

Sold

From high quality and well detailed Marusan molds. This is likely the second issue of this UPC kit as it has the box art corrected to show a F-86D. The first issue had a rather graphic error - it pictures F-86 Saberjets on the box - NOT the F-86D 'Dog version. The Marusan F-86D model is known for it's action features and accessories, and the UPC reissue includes them all. Kit has removable radome to display the radar, opening canopy, removable tail section with dolly and detailed jet engine with engine stand, operating leading edge slats, operating wing flaps, moving control surfaces, retracting landing gear, retracting/extending missile tray, boarding ladder, and extra missiles with missile cart. This kit has never been started. It is either still in the internally sealed factory bag or has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. UPC stood for Universal Powermaster Corporation which was based out of New York City, NY. UPC did not cut their own molds, but bought kits already molded from other manufacturers and re-boxed the kits in the USA. Scott Eidson, the famous artist best known for his artwork with Revell, also did UPC box art in the 1960s. All UPC production ended in the 1970s.
