Very rare kit for the advanced collector. In the early 1950s Best Hobby Kits (Best Plastic Corporation of Brooklyn, NY) entered the infant USA plastic model kit market with a series of Indianapolis 500 winners. Six kits were issued - the 1920 Monroe Special, 1922 Murphy Special, 1931 Miller Special, 1935 Gilmore Special, 1940 Maserati Racer and 1953 Fuel Injection Special. The kits were priced correctly and featured 'Super Detailed' parts (for the time). It is unknown why the line failed to sell - it may have been distribution. Best was certainly not a large player in the business. The kit features real rubber Firestone racing tires, decals and some interior detail. The kit has not been started.
