1/72 MP5003 MPM Sukhoi SU-9 1946 Jet Fighter
Multimedia Model Kit, Box Condition: Good
Rare early Soviet twin jet engine fighter with a certain resemblance to the Me-262. This is a multimedia kit. The main airframe parts are beautifully vacuformed with recessed panel lines and higher quality than many injection molded kits. All the details (bulkheads, cockpit parts, landing gear, braces, wheels, gear doors and much more) are injection molded. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The clear canopy is in 'mint' condition and not even yellowed. The Su-9 was quickly built after testing the Me-262s captured at the end of the war. Work started in the summer of 1946 and it flew in November of the same year. The airplane had many improvements over the Me-262 and was very successful in flight tests. The upgraded version was even better it was decided that it would make a perfect front line fighter instead of the intended fighter roll. However, series production was canceled because by this time (1947) the Mig-9 was in use, Suchoi had a more powerful aircraft in design (the Su-11) and most of all, Mikoyan's design team had just finished their early work on the Mig-15 which showed incredible promise.
