Rare. Please note, this is a 'Famous Fighters' logo, first box art issue kit WITHOUT the Parents' Magazine Logo and a 69 cent price extension. This is the first time I have seen a FF original art version with no PM logo with a 69 cent price extension. Just when you think you have Aurora figured out, another variation comes along! That would make this the true third issue of this kit - only three issues have the 69 cent extension and are from 1956 and 1957. This kit has not been factory overstamped to 79 and still shows 69 on both sides The kit is molded in gloss dark green and black. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The decals are 'excellent' and the instructions are near mint. Please NOTE that the box only grades 'good.' The box has good color, is very solid (including all four corners) and has no fading but there is the obvious short litho tear under the logo on the box top. Additionally, there is general wear as shown and a short piece of masking tape on each of the two long sides.

Fourth or fifth issue of this kit and much rarer than the first (1956) issue. Box is dated 1956 but this issue is from about 1962/3 because it has the oval starburst logo and no 'Famous Fighters,' a 79 cent price extension and no Parents' Magazine Seal. This is a true 79 cent box - there is no 'stamp out' of the old 69. Molded in gloss green and black. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

What is most unusual is that the price is within a red-filled circle; this is the first instance of this that I have seen. Just when you think you have Aurora's kit history figured out, they throw you another curve ball! Molded in the correct glossy dark green and black. Decals and instructions are correct for the first issue as well. There is no assembly but NOTE: the outlines of the Maltese crosses have been painted on the wings and fuselage. You can remove this paint with any safe plastic paint stripper - I personally like spray-on oven cleaner. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present.

It has the same box art and is also molded in white and clear plastic. Features retractable landing gear, rotating wheels and propellers, three man crew, optional position rear boarding door, life raft with two survivors and more. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes two different partial decal sheets and instructions. NOTE: the primary decal sheet is for two USAF aircraft and it originally came with the kit but it is only 95% intact. Three decals are missing. The other decal sheet is only partial and from another issue of this same kit. It only includes US Coast Guard markings (the USAF markings are missing for this sheet).

1960s issue hardbox issue that is molded in dark green with the small parts in black plastic. This issue includes the ground mechanic and small ground base with chocks. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. This is part of the famous Aurora WWI series of 1/48 scale aircraft. The series began in 1956 and Aurora added new kits into the early 1960s. The line proved incredibly popular, so these kits were included in the 'mold upgrade' in the 1970s before Aurora went out of business.
