Revell USS Missouri Narrow Box - First Issue Pre 'S' Kit, 1/535, H301-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

First release 1953 hardbox pre 'S' kit and the first ship model that Revell cut their own molds for. Earlier Revell ship releases were Ex-Gowland and Gowland molds for the small scale sailing ship series. This box is in 'Very Good++' condition which is rare. Color is good, all four corners are solid , there is no missing litho, no price tags or tag marks and the only signs of tape are from the narrow factory sealing tape. The box does have general wear, especially on some corners and some creases on the lower long side. Inside, the kit is molded in medium gray. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete including all parts, decals, flag sheet and instructions. The early style flag sheet is in 'excellent' condition and the instructions are the correct very large format for this issue and in 'excellent+' condition with the typical age yellowing. Please note that Revell did not furnish decals with this issue.

Topping McDonnell F2H Banshee - Factory Desktop Model

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: No Box

Sold

Very rare early 1950s Topping F2H Banshee Factory Model made for McDonnell. This is a one-owner kit; it just came from a contractor and Navy man who worked this and many other progams during the "Golden Age" of factory models. This example is 100% original and in 'excellent' condition overal. The plastic has like-new color and gloss. The canopy is 'excelllent' with the only issue being light age yellowing as shown. The decals are 'very good' but do have light wear and and typical light age damage as shown. There are no missing parts, no broken parts and no repairs, which is rare. The original stand is in 'near mint' condition with the only flaw being a slight yellowing to the decal. It would be difficult to find an all-original example in this good of condition. Does not come with the original box.

Pyro Gouda Dutch Man-O-War - 17th Century, B212-400

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Rare Pyro kit from 1967. Large scale - measures about 14 inches long when assembled. Very nicely molded and detailed. Features well over 250 parts, individually molded cannon, cradles and cannon hull hatches, separately molded fife rails with belaying pins, pre-molded rat lines, billowing sails, blocks and two photos for use in rigging the ship. The kit has never been started. The white parts are still in the factory sealed bag; the brown parts were not sealed and have been inventoried complete including instructions. Any kit of a Dutch 17th Century Man-o-War is rare - this may be the only injection molded kit ever made of this famous subject. The Gouda fought in the Anglo-Dutch Wars. She was built about 1636 and was commanded by Jan Egbertsz Ooms. The Gouda and other ships from Witte de With's fleet were lost in a storm in early November 1653. Pyro did not cut molds based on popularity, but usually by the historical significance of the subject. This was not a good injection-molded model business practice, but many collectors and builders are grateful today for these kits. Please read the articles about Pyro Kit History and Pyro's founder. Both articles are located on this website.

The box is intact but has so much clear tape on it and other damage that it is graded 'poor+.' Also includes several used/partial and one unused sheet of Joe Ott WWII profile Idento-Planes. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called 'The Aviation Craze' that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business, called Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviations great Recruiter, Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.
