Strombecker was very well known for producing the finest pre-carved hardwood aircraft and missile kits, but they had a very short journey into the plastic model field. After making the Sea Dart kit in 1956, they added four more for a total of 5 injection molded aircraft kits. All were discontinued in the mid 1960s. The Sea Dart was a supersonic design that could take off and land from water using retractable hydro-skis. Five prototypes were built and over 300 test flights made. The advent of the super carrier spelled the end of the Sea Dart, although 4 still exist on display today.
