The B-32 was the competitor to the B-29 in the US War Department January 1940 very long range bomber requirement. The B-29 won the competition, but the B-32 was produced as a back up plan. The aircraft was plagued with teething problems and Consolidated was kept busy trying to solve them. The program was almost canceled more than once. Finally, three B-32s arrived in the Pacific Theater for combat testing in May of 1945 and flew the first combat mission from the Philippines on 29th of May. As more aircraft arrived in the Pacific most of the problems were eliminated and the B-32 was proven to be a tough, stable performer with excellent handling. Production was canceled at the end of the war.

Revell Sir Freddie Laker's DC-10 Skytrain, 1/144, H271

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

1978 issue from Revell of Germany. Well made 1/144 kit of the famous (or infamous) three-holer in the historic Laker colors. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. In 1971, air lines were highly regulated on both sides of the Atlantic. Freddie Laker thought he could fly passengers across the 'Pond' at a fraction of the current ticket prices. Using his successful experience from operating one of the most profitable UK charter airlines, Laker battled for years for permission to run his service at 1/3 of what the existing carriers charged. After 6 years, he finally won. On September 26, 1977, the Laker DC-10s began the first daily discount cross Atlantic flights from London to New York. Although Skytrain service has been long discontinued, Laker helped created the regulatory and business model for modern discount airlines, such as Southwest)

KVZ Tupolev Tu-134 Interflug Crusty, 1/100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair-

Sold

Rare kit of this Soviet Transport nicknamed 'Crusty' by NATO. The Tu-134 is a design similar to the DC-9 and has seen widespread and successful service. It is perhaps most famous (or infamous) for the death of Mozambican president in 1986. The Tu-134 was a gift from the Soviets. When returning from the meeting, the aircraft crashed into mountains inside South Africa. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. KVZ was a Eastern German manufacturer of kits during the Cold War. They made a fascinating range of civil and military subjects. If it were not for their efforts, there would be many 'Iron Curtain' subjects (especially civil) that we would never have injection molded kits of.
