However, escort ship opened fire with .60 caliber machine gun fire from close range, mortally wounding Commander Gilmore. His dying words were 'Take her down.' Monogram TWO Hawker Typhoon Test Shots - Bagged, 1/72, PA213

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

This kit came from the collection of one of Monogram's finest and talented Chief Designers, the man who created the original B-52 kit, B-17, B-24J, P-36A, P-39 Airacobra, P-61 Black Widow, DH Mosquito, at least one if not all of the 1/8 scale Ford cars, A-1E Skyraider and numerous other famous kits. In his collection were boxes labeled 'TEST SHOTS' and some with his name on it. After designing the model, he was still responsible for the entire program, at least up to the point of mass production. Test Shots were made near the end of the design process for the Chief Designer of that kit to inspect; if something was wrong, he ordered changed. If not, he would clear the kit for production. This is one of those kits. Ever notice that all Monogram Typhoons are molded in either gray or green? Well, not this time! One test shot is molded in a very strange light olive with a light black swirl and gray wings; the second one is molded in gloss medium gray. Both canopy sets are molded in clear. These predate the first production Typhoons. They have never been started. Both models are inventoried with all parts complete and include a Monogram-photocopied set of instructions. These instructions almost certainly came with the test shot. Just for the sake of information, the Huey Cobra test shots were in bright silver, early Helldivers were in silver or clear (yes, large parts in clear), P-40s in chocolate brown, FW-190 small parts in a stunning white with black swirls and much more.

Aurora Bell AH-1G Huey Cobra - Assault Helicopter - Rectangle Box Issue, 1/48, 501-130

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Mint

Sold

Still factory sealed and in investment-grade 'Mint' condition. Big 'A' logo issue is dated 1972 and this is likely the third issue of this kit. In the late 1960s Aurora realized that the older molds were out of date and modelers were demanding more realism. They made a new set of molds for ships, airplanes and helicopters. These were significant improvements as the new molds were on par with current offerings. This Cobra kit is one of the improved models. Features full cockpit, pilot and copilot figures, rotating main and rear rotors and optional weapons load of miniguns or rocket pods.
