California Model Co SE-5A Scout - 19.75 Inch Wingspan Balsa Flying Aircraft, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Probably from the late 1940s or early 1950s. Stick and tissue flying model kit to a constant 1/16 scale with very nice quality. Kit can use rubber, CO2 or small gas motors for power. Features covering material, quality balsa printwood and strip wood, blocks as needed and beautifully drawn full size plans. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete with all parts and plans. Made by California Model Company out of Long Beach, CA USA. From the box there was at least a Spad, SE-5, Fokker DVII, Niuport and a Sopwith Camel for rubber power as well as the 'Spacer A-B' & 'Spacer 1/2A' and the indoor Featherette. We know they also issued some ex-Suydam railroad kits as well. From Bill Baker Jr - "California Model Company originated in Long Beach, Calif in the late 1940's or early 1950's. My grandparents, William (Bill) Loyal Baker and his wife, Ruth (Tripp) Baker were the founders. The company started out as primarily balsa based model aircraft but later, in the late 50's or early 60's, branched into the model RR craft kits and Cub Scout craft kits. They even had a balsa speed boat kit powered by a model airplane gas engine adapted to fit. When they retired, around 1968 or 1969, they sold the business and the "shop" in North Long Beach they built to house their business. I have many fond memories as a young child "working" with them in the shop, assembling kits. I have a few unbuilt kits today!"

Aurora Cessna 310, 1/62, 283-39

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Rare issue dated 1963 and from quality ex-Comet molds. Neatly molded early 310 featuring all recessed panel lines, clear side and front windows, tip tanks, rotating propellers, display stand and full pinstripe decals. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Aurora had started a line of inexpensive 29 cent kits in about 1957. The line was a success, and it was expanded. The line grew again when Aurora purchased the Comet molds, as most of Comet's line was very small scale kits, many of them civil aircraft like this one. It appears that Aurora was encouraged by the sale of the ex-Comet civil aircraft, as it expanded the line with it's own molds in the early 1960s.

Maircraft TWO Erco Ercoupe - Solid Wood Model Airplane, 1/48, S-14

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

SALE!! Includes two models in one box. Maircraft was originally founded in the early or mid 1930s by Gordon Christoph and went by the name Aircraft Model Company. The company produced a typical line of solid 'profile cut' kits that required the usual high talent levels for carving and finishing. A former Comet Model Airplane & Supply Co. salesman, Jack Mair, bought the company in the early 1940s and renamed it Maircraft. This company was one of the handful of solid kit producers who issued models in a consistent 1/48 scale during the 1930s and 1940s (others included Hawk and Dyna-Model). This lead to one of the most desirable and rare model kits ever produced in the USA - the wood/plastic 1/48 United DC-3 model issued immediately after World War 2. Other than the P-61 and a few other Maircraft offerings, most were simple kits that sold for the low price of about 35 cents and gave the owners many hours of pleasurable work. This kit features a full size plan, 2D profile cut fuselage, wings and tail feathers & a small envelope of details. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions.

Topping Grumman F9F Panther - Factory Desktop Model

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: No Box

Sold

Very rare early 1950s Topping F9F Panther Factory Model made for Grumman. This is a one-owner kit; it just came from a contractor and Navy man who worked this and many other progams during the "Golden Age" of factory models. This example is 100% original and in 'excellent' condition overal. The plastic has like-new color and gloss. The canopy is 'Very Good++' with the only issue being typical age yellowing as shown. The decals are in amazing 'near mint'condition. There are no missing parts, no broken parts and no repairs, which is rare. The original stand is in 'excellent' condition with the only flaw being some small, light scratches. It would be difficult to find an all-original example in this good of condition. Does not come with the original box.

Topping Grumman F9F-8 Cougar - Factory Desktop Model In The Original Topping Box

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Incredibly rare, 1950s NOS Topping F9F-8 model untouched in the original factory box. Inside, all of the factory cardboard and tissue are still intact. The stand and aircraft were never displayed or used. The gloss and shine on both are fantastic. There are no cracks, no breaks and no repairs. Decals and factory paint are 'excellent++' to 'near mint.' While never used, please note that these models never left the factory in 'flawless' condition. There were always minor paint flaws and minor molding flaws as they were mass-produced. Furthermore, the canopies and decals inevitably have some yellowing, although this example is minimal. Because the original Topping box adds significantly to the value, it will be carefully packed into another box for shipping. Shipping insurance is required.
