Monogram B-26 Invader - Four Star Issue / True Second Issue, 1/67, P6-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

True second issue from 1955. Rare. Few people (including me) knew that there was a second release of P6-98 that varied significantly from the first issue. The true first issue has a part number of 'P6-98', early '4 star' rectangle logo, black rubber main gear tires and no support peg to keep it from being a 'tail sitter' when assembled. The second issue (this kit) has the same part number, logo but has regular injection molded (silver) tires and a peg to keep the nose gear grounded. The instructions show these changes and confirm that this model is still numbered kit P6 (as do the decals also). Molded in correct gloss silver and clear plastic. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. (In the past it was believed that the second issue was 'PA6-98' with a modified box top logo. This is now known to be the third issue.)

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Excellent limited edition kit. Features main airframe parts in professional grade castings, good interior detail, printed instruments, painting guide and full decals. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. From thisdayinaviation.com: Two R2C-1 Racers was built for the U.S. Navy by the Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company of Hammondsport, New York, and were assigned serial numbers A6691 and A6692. They were single-place, single-engine biplanes with a wooden monocoque fuselage and fabric-covered wings. Curtiss had made every effort to reduce aerodynamic drag, including the use of surface radiators on the wings to cool the engine. The airplane was 19 feet, 3 inches (5.867 meters) long with a wingspan of 22 feet (6.706 meters). The biplane had an empty weight of 1,692 pounds (767 kilograms) and gross weight of 2,112.3 pounds (958.1 kilograms). The R2C-1 Racers were powered by a revolutionary 1,209.610-cubic-inch-displacement (19.813 liter) water-cooled, normally-aspirated Curtiss D-12A dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) 60° V-12 engine with four valves per cylinder. The cylinders and water jackets were cast as a monoblock and a drop-forged crankshaft with seven main bearings was used. A Stromberg NA-75 carburetor supplied the air/fuel mixture. The engine turned a two-bladed forged aluminum propeller designed by Sylvanus A. Reed. This fixed-pitch propeller had very thin blades which allowed it to turn at high speed without adverse sonic effects. The D-12A drove this propeller without gear reduction (direct drive, hence the “D” in the engine’s designation). The D-12A was specifically modified as a racing engine and did not have a power rating for normal service, however, it nominally produced 507 horsepower, with a 520 horsepower maximum. It was capable of operating at 2,500 r.p.m. The Curtiss D-12 was 56¾ inches (1.441 meters) long, 28¼ inches (0.718 meters) wide and 34¾ inches (0.882 meters) high. It weighed 678.25 pounds (307.65 kilograms).

Hudson Miniatures 1914 Stutz Bearcat - Old Timers, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Well detailed, large 1/16 scale kit from 1949. Features plastic wheels, grill, steering wheel, lights and other accessories, wooden and metal main parts and some die-cut cardstock parts as well. Although all of Hudson's 1/16 kits have excellent detail, this one has even more detail than usual thanks to Hudson's engineers having access to the actual car. The instructions even warn that this kit will take more time than usual due to the "tedious detail." This kit has never been started. Many smaller wooden kits are still in the factory sealed 'krinkle' bag; the other parts are not sealed and have been inventoried complete and include plans and instructions. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.
