Revell HMS Campbeltown Destroyer - (USS Buchanan), 1/240, H450

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

1971 issue and large scale model of this detailed historic four-pipe destroyer. Features propeller & (movable) rudder detail, all deck fittings, rotating 5" guns, ammunition boxes, bridge instruments & ships wheel, detailed superstructure, torpedo tubes and directors, deck chests, depth charges & racks, boarding ladders and more. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: the decal backing paper has bug damage. The actual transfers have no damaged.Originally the USS Buchanan Four-Piper, she was traded in the famous Lend-Lease program for the use of British bases. On March 8, 1942, the Campbeltown sailed up the Loire River. Her mission was to destroy the Normandie Drydock, a possible haven for the Tirpitz which was holed up on Norway at this time. The Campbeltown was disguised as a German warship and the bow was packed with 8500 lbs of high explosive depth charges. Under a RAF diversion, Campbeltown fought her way up the river and rammed the dock doors at full speed. Charges at the stern sank the back of the ship and she was wedged in the dock. During a German inspection 8 hours later, the charges went off, scattering parts of the ship up to one mile away. The dock was rendered useless to the Tirpitz, who now had to stay in Norway.

Aurora French Nieuport 11, 1/48, 101-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Very rare 2nd or 3rd issue from 1957 that turns up much less than the first (1956) release. For a long time I did not know this issue even existed. Please note there is NO '69' cent price extension, but it has a 101-69 cent part number, a yellow-rectangle backed sunburst oval logo with 'Famous Fighters' in the border, the Parents' Magazine Seal. This was probably issued for less than one year. Normally this issue is only seen with a 79 cent price extension. This model is one of a very successful line of 1/48 WWI aircraft that Aurora launched in 1956. The line sold so well that new kits were added into the 1960s. Molded in the correct gloss olive drab green and black. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Even includes the original factory tissue packing paper. Thanks to Eugene DuBey, we know some history on the aircraft that Aurora modeled. The tail # on the kit rudder is 1354, the number of a Nie 16 that served with CAM de Dunquerke / St Pol sur Mer", 1916-17.

Hasegawa Kyushu J7W2 Shindenkai Jet Version, 1/72, SP158

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Hard-to-find limited issue dated 1996. This is an excellent model of the later all-jet Shinden design. Features full cockpit, detailed landing gear wells, very fine recessed panel lines and more. NOTE: this kit has minor, 'professional' quality subassembly as follows: top wing half to lower wing; seat and bulkhead to cockpit floor. There is no other assembly. Inventoried 100% complete and includes decals and instructions. The amazing Shinden (the original propeller driven prototype) was a radical design and the first canard aircraft in Japan. The basic design was first tested in the MXY6 motor glider with a 22 hp engine in 1943. The tests were considered a success, and design of the J7W1 began in June of 1944. Various configurations were tried, and the prototype had a rear mounted 2000 hp engine, 6 blade propeller, 20 degree sweep back to the wing, two vertical stabilizers and four nose mounted 30mm cannon. It flew two weeks before the end of WWII but never saw combat. The Japanese were quick to realize the jet engine advantage and designed a jet powered version which is this model; however it remained on the drawing board and the war ended before a prototype could be built.

Airfix Henschel HS-123 -1 - Spanish Civil War or Luftwaffe - (Hs123-1), 1/72, 02051-4

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

From the 1980s and includes Spanish Civil War and Luftwaffe decals. Never started and the parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The Hs-123 was the Luftwaffe's first in-service dive bomber and was built by the famous locomotive maker Henschel. The '123 had been replaced by the start of WWII by the Stuka, but demand continued for the aircraft and they were of great use in Belgium and France. During the terrible weather of the Russian campaign, the HS-123 once again found itself in demand. When conditions were so bad that other aircraft could not fly, the Hs-123 would often be in the air. The sturdy construction and good flying characteristics made it a favorite among pilots.

Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
