Premier 1910 Ford Model T Type, 1/32, 600-49

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

1950s issue with excellent box art. The kit inside is a near-copy of the Highway Pioneers Model T. Premier intended to capitalize on the Gowland/Revell 1/32 classic car popularity; how well they did is unknown. The box art is definitely better than it's rival, but the kit is more basic. Molded in black with a metal wire frame windshield. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. Judging from the list of available kits on the long side panels of the box, Premier either copied Gowland & Gowland/Revell's kits or received many of the kit parts from them.

Revell 1910 Ford Model T Highway Pioneers, 1/32, H32

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

1952 first issue in the 'Series One' yellow box. This early issue has the Gowland & Gowland 'balloon' logo on the long sides and no price extension on the part number. These issues feature the same 5 car artwork on every box; the only way to identify the contents was an ink-stamped name on the box ends. Molded in black plastic. This kit has never been started. All parts are still in the factory sealed bag. Includes instructions. These kits have a fascinating history. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream and never made the top 10 list of boys activities. Spurred on by the nation-wide aviation craze in the 1920s, many became modelers and built flying or static wooden models of airplanes, ships, trains, automotive and other subjects. Basic kits existed, but many of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s when the Gowland & Gowland/Revell Highway Pioneers became the sales sensation of the year. Demand was so great that the factories could not keep up and almost overnight 'model building' was mainstream. The phenomenon of the 'Highway Pioneers' kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles fit the bill: they could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real cars. The success of the Highway Pioneers lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the late 1950s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys...and many adult males too!

Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Rare kit from the 1940s or very late 1930s. Every rarer in this condition - with a complete box and all contents never disturbed other than when I did the inventory. This is very unusual due to the age and their very fragile nature. This model is one of Joe Ott's mid-range line in size and price. It features glue in a metal tube, 2 sheets of the unique Ott-O-Matic formers on thick stock, factory-carved balsa propeller, thin hardwood wing ribs, factory-cut stripwood stock, a factory sealed paper envelope for the small parts (usually consists of fully carved thrust button, main wheels and metal prop shaft/rubber motor hook), clear material for windows, color insignia, covering tissue and excellent plans. Cleveland Outside Braced Automobile Car - Rock Island - (Box Car) - Wooden Model, 1/64

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Very rare and dated 1937. Cleveland had their own extensive line of model railroad kits in the 1930s. They were excellent models but Mr. Packard chose the nonstandard 1/64 as the scale. I had seen Cleveland trains in the catalogs but this is first one I have found in 24 years of looking. Inside, it is a kit of typical high Cleveland quality. Features highly detailed plans with numerous drawings and text instructions, full color litho wrap for the car sides, roof and ends, a factory sealed bag of C-D Trucks, a factory sealed envelope of small parts, high-quality, factory cut hardwood roof (to the correct shape), floor, ends and other parts, wood and metal stock as required and more. Never started. The small parts and trucks are still factory sealed. The parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete including all paperwork. Please NOTE: there is a rough tear in the color wrap but it is complete.

Lindberg F7U-1 Cutlass - (F7U1), 1/48, 510-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

1956 or '57 Gaedke artwork with three aircraft and the carrier. The box top has like new color and gloss, four solid corners, no repairs, no price tags, no fading and no litho tears. General and even light wear are the only flaws. The model is molded in a stunning, high-gloss dark blue and clear plastic and includes decals for the box art aircraft including red and white checkerboards for the rudders. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. Dating early Lindberg kits is problematic to a near complete lack of release information; early catalogs normally do not have dates, and there are no dates on early boxes or instructions & decals. However, by records kept when the kits were purchased new, we know this kit was issued either in 1956 or 1957. The early part number of '10' after the 5 would support such an early date, as Lindberg initially used sequential numbers. Please note that the instructions for this kit contain multiple factory mistakes! The pilot sits on a seat, not the 'board' shown in the instructions. The pitot tube is not even shown on the assembly page, but is present with the kit.
