Rare issue dated 1963 and from ex-Comet molds. Neatly molded with all recessed panel lines, clear side and front windows, tip tanks, rotating propellers, display stand and full pinstripe decals. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Aurora had started a line of inexpensive 29 cent kits in about 1957. The line was a success, and it was expanded. The line grew again when Aurora purchased the Comet molds, as most of Comet's line was very small scale kits, many of them civil aircraft like this one. It appears that Aurora was encouraged by the sale of the ex-Comet civil aircraft, as it expanded the line with it's own molds in the early 1960s.

Hardbox issue dated 1965. This kit uses the molds of the classic 1959 'S' operating kit, so it makes and ideal builder. Model has many action features: Wings fold, dive brakes operate, bomb drops, ailerons, elevators, rudder and flaps operate, arresting hook raises and lowers, canopy slides to show full cockpit, landing gear retracts and cowling comes off to show fully detailed engine with exhaust stacks and more. Includes a very large variety of stores with two large drop tanks, large centerline bomb and 12 wing mounted rockets. Includes pilot and ground crew of three and markings for US Navy or South Vietnamese Air Force. There is no assembly but it has minor and neat painting to one part: the life vest on the pilot is painted yellow. There is no other painting. Maircraft was originally founded in the early or mid 1930s by Gordon Christoph and went by the name Aircraft Model Company. The company produced a typical line of solid 'profile cut' kits that required the usual high talent levels for carving and finishing. A former Comet Model Airplane & Supply Co. salesman, Jack Mair, bought the company in the early 1940s and renamed it Maircraft. This company was one of the handful of solid kit producers who issued models in a consistent 1/48 scale during the 1930s and 1940s (others included Hawk and Dyna-Model). This lead to one of the most desirable and rare model kits ever produced in the USA - the wood/plastic 1/48 United DC-3 model issued immediately after World War 2. Other than the P-61 and a few other Maircraft offerings, most were simple kits that sold for the low price of about 35 cents and gave the owners many hours of pleasurable work. This kit features a full size plan with instructions steps, color insignia sheet, fuselage that is about 70% 3D cut, profile cut wings and tails, finished wheels and finished hardwood nacelle. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions.
