From the mid 1960s. This is an excellent model designed rubber free flight or control line. Includes an innovative system for making the landing gear operate in flight. Features high-quality all die-cut balsa sheets of parts, factory-cut spars and strip wood, wood stock as required, a beautiful clear vacuform canopy (that is still like new and with no yellowing), vacuform light-weight plastic gear well, cowl with motor front, air scoop and pilot bust, plastic propeller and rubber motor, all metal hardware for the retracting gear, completely finished main gear and tail wheels, finished thrust button and other hardware, full color decals (in amazing mint condition), covering tissue and excellent full size plans with instructions. Never started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed Sterling bag; that parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete with all paperwork. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they had unique working features, color decals, high-grade die cut balsa, vacuform plastic detail parts, clear canopies, wire landing gear and excellent instructions.

Hardbox release dated 1960. This is the harder-to-find issue because it has desirable 'Famous Fighters' in the logo border. The one without 'Famous Fighters' is much more common. This was a nice kit for the time featuring 'good' cockpit detail, pilot and student figures, rotating prop and USAF decals. Molded in silver and clear. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Please note that the box is only ranked 'good' because there is light brown age spotting on the box top; you can see it best against the yellow areas.

The actual model is the Heller kit, which is the only 1/72 'Stretch Connie.' It is well detailed and molded. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. I have protected the decals in a zip lock that is backed with thick cardboard from a packing box. Please note, like the box top says, there are NO TWA decals. The kit only came with Qantas decals.
