Fresh from a long-closed down hobby shop. Very rare kit from 1956; the molds were altered to make the class seaplane tender, which made any reissue impossible. The box has wonderful color and gloss, four solid corners, no creases, no fading, rips or tears, no stains, no price tag or tag marks and no tape or tape marks - this box even escaped the factory tape sealing machine! There is very light general wear and moderate wear to the lower right short side for 1" by 1/16". The prototype Norton Sound was originally a seaplane tender and was converted to an ocean-going laboratory for development and testing of guided missiles and rockets. This ship was key in the Navy's move into the guided missile age. The model features working cranes, operating launching platform for the Viking missile, Terrier with launcher, Jeeps and Lark missile. The kit has never been started. Inside, it is exactly as it left the factory. The small parts and decals are still factory sealed in the Revell clear bag. The larger parts were never sealed and are inventoried complete. Includes flag sheet and instructions. Instructions are in 'near mint' condition with the typical age yellowing as the only flaw. Decals are still factory sealed and would grade the same as the instructions.

Has markings for 'Night Blitz' London attacker H-4 of KG 55 'Griffin Squadron' in early 1941 and KG 26 'Lion Squadron' which was relocated to Sicily in 1941 to attack shipping as an H-5 twin-torpedo bomber. From the late 1960s and early 70s. Large and well detailed stick and tissue model that can be flown rubber free flight, gas free flight, or converted to electric RC using modern small and light servos and receivers. Features quality die-cut balsa parts, stripwood and spars, plastic nose cowl & wheel pants, decals, covering tissue, scale wheels, full size plans, plastic propeller and thrust button, metal shaft/rubber hook, detailed instructions on the full size plans and more. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.
