Revell PT-212 - PT Boat (Higgins Patrol Torpedo Boat) - Pre 'S' Issue, 1/98, H304-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Rare original issue dated 1953. The Pre-S hardbox has like-new color and gloss, four solid corners, no tape or price tags (and no marks from either), no tears and no missing litho, fading or stains. There is very light wear. This is one of Revell's earlier ship kits, issued shortly after the release of the Missouri in the same year. Inside, the kit has never been started and has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. One piece (a gunner) has a small part broken off, but that part is whole and included. Thank you to Joe Couture for his important note about this kit: "The PT212 is a HIGGINS built boat, unlike the ELCO version made by most other manufacturers. The ELCO was effective and widely used in the Pacific, whereas the Higgins, somewhat smaller, could turn and accelerate more sharply, and was used in the Mediterranean against Italian shipping, all along the coast of the "Boot"."

The same was done for the Piper Tri-Pacer.

Around 1949 the USAF assigned a high priority to all weather fighter design and deployment. Most manufacturers built traditional two seat machines, such as the F-94. North American, however took a new approach and created one of the first true "One-Man Interceptors". Keeping the wings and landing gear from the proven F-86 Day Fighter, they made a longer and deeper fuselage with a large radome and J47 engine. Guns were replaced with 24 2.75" folding fin rockets. Although more than a ton heavier than the F-86, the Dog was the fastest aircraft of it's day and set several world records. 2,504 were built and formed the backbone of America's air defense system in the 1950s.
