Operation Heat Rise was named such because higher than usual ram intake air temperatures were used during this run from LA-NY-LA which won the Bendix Trophy and the Mackay Trophy in 1962. The danger was the aluminum honeycomb bonded skin melting during the run, as this was the primary limitation.
