Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

With full size plans with construction tips. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Cleveland Col. W.A. Bishops Nieuport Scout Biplane - 13 Inch Wingspan Free-Flight Rubber Powered Flying Aircraft, 1/24, D-12

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Very rare and from 1936. This is a Cleveland 'D' or dwarf kit. The term 'Dwarf' is just a bit deceptive, as it is Cleveland's designation for 1/24 scale. Most Cleveland kits were designated 'SF' or Scale Flying - 1/16 scale. The Dwarf kits were needed to fill a market demand for smaller flying models. The kit came from a long time collector of 1930s and 1940s models and is in exceptional condition. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features two sheetes of very high quality balsa printwood, stringers & spars, fully formed nacelle and wheels, covering tissue, a wood propeller that is about 90% carved and just needs final sanding, gray rigging thread, metal and balsa stock as required, full color insignia and more. With Cleveland's famous high-quality plans. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete with all parts and paperwork present. Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane supply business - Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's great Recruiter - Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Jo-Han 1961 Plymouth Fury 2 Door Hardtop 3 in 1 - Custom / Stock / Racing, 1/25, 2361-139

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Very rare kit and ever rarer in never started and complete condition. This is a very good model of a great subject. It features detailed chassis with torsion bars suspension, optional position lowering blocks (for stock or custom), full interior and a host of optional parts such as fender skirts, tach, floor shift, exhaust dump pipes, fender mirrors, chrome horns, dual aerials, louvers, continental kit and more. Molded in light yellow, chrome plate, clear and with rubber wide white-wall tires, metal axles and metal body screws. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Decals are in amazing 'near mint' condition and the instructions are 'excellent+'. The box is only 'good' because there is bug litho damage which is centered mainly around the edges; there is more on the lower long side than on the top. Please NOTE that on these and other early Jo-Han car kits that the decals pictured on the side are not always the decals that Jo-han placed inside. Jo-Han used more than one generic decal sheet and some of them for at least two years. It also seems that in the early years they used about whatever was laying around, probably as a cost-saving measure. The decal sheet in this kit has does match some of the transfers shown on the box side picture but not all of them.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

This unique aircraft was designed in the 1930s as an aircraft carrier-based torpedo bomber. In the fly-off competition with the AR-195 in 1938 the Fieseler proved the superior aircraft. The Technical Office ordered 12 pre-production aircraft for further trials and training on the aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin. But, due to political sabotage by Luftwaffe officials, the ship was not completed. The remaining Fi-167s were sold to abroad.

Comet Aeronca K - 25 Inch Wingspan - Coke Bottle Issue, N25-29

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Rare 1950s/early 1960s stick-and-tissue flying model. Features quality balsa printwood, factory-cut strip & spar stock, covering material and full plans. There is no assembly but NOTE: the parts have been cut out to 'professional' quality...better than any die-cutting could have done. As you know, this is an amazing advantage to the builder and an incredible time saver. Oddly enough, the man who cut them out was one of Monogram's top Chief Designers. He designed and headed up the projects for the B-52, B-17, B-24J, Mosquito, Skyraider A-1E, Hurricane, Spitfire, P-40, at least one (if not all) of the 1/8 scale cars and many, many more. The entire Comet 1950s "N" line included the following (gaps mean there is no kit, at least at that time): N1 Tiger Shark P-40, N2 F-86D Sabre Jet, N4 Globe Swift, N6 Taylorcraft, N8 F-51 Mustang, N9 Helicopter, N11 Ryan Navion, N12 Firefly, N15 Piper Cub, N16 Fokker DVII, N17 Spad, N24 Phantom Fury, N25 Aeronca K (floats) and N26 Stinson SR-7. Aurora German Pfalz D-3 - (D-III), 1/48, 109-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Mint

Sold

Still factory sealed and in remarkable 'Mint' condition. Features classic Jo Kotula artwork. The box is dated 1957 but this is roughly the third or fourth issue because of the simplified blue-border logo which means it is from about 1963/64. This is part of the famous Aurora WWI series of 1/48 scale aircraft. The series began in 1956 and Aurora added new kits into the early 1960s. The line proved incredibly popular, so these kits were included in the 'mold upgrade' in the 1970s before Aurora went out of business. Monogram even reissued a few of these kits after they purchased the Aurora molds in the late 1970s.
