Maircraft Taylorcraft Solid Wood Model Airplane, 1/48, S-17

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Maircraft was originally founded in the early or mid 1930s by Gordon Christoph and went by the name Aircraft Model Company. The company produced a typical line of solid 'profile cut' kits that required the usual high talent levels for carving and finishing. A former Comet Model Airplane & Supply Co. salesman, Jack Mair, bought the company in the early 1940s and renamed it Maircraft. This company was one of the handful of solid kit producers who issued models in a consistent 1/48 scale during the 1930s and 1940s (others included Hawk and Dyna-Model). This lead to one of the most desirable and rare model kits ever produced in the USA - the wood/plastic 1/48 United DC-3 model issued immediately after World War 2. Other than the P-61 and a few other Maircraft offerings, most were simple kits that sold for the low price of about 35 cents and gave the owners many hours of pleasurable work. This kit features a full size plan with instructions steps, fuselage that is about 80% cut, profile cut parts, printwood and a small bag of details. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Italy's 'Flying Fortress' was a large, attractive four engine bomber with the same full load weight as a B-17 with a top speed of 279 mph. The aircraft was well liked and featured excellent visibility, very docile handling and was very maneuverable. Kit features main vacuform parts of higher quality than many injection molded kits, all injection molded details, crystal clear canopies and full decals for the 'Bruno Mussolini' Squadron. Never started and inventoried 100% complete.

The small parts that were factory internal bag sealed are still sealed, and the parts that Renwal never did internally seal - the large hull halves - are complete and not damaged. The clear side is in 'new' condition and I have wrapped it to prevent damage during shipping. Includes instructions, parts sheet and decals (still bagged sealed) in very good condition. Revell Bell P-39 Airacobra 'S' Kit, 1/45, H222-89

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Mint

Sold

Early Revell 'S' kit from about 1955-56 in investment grade condition. The box is has brilliant color and gloss with no flaws. Oddly enough, there are not even any factory tape marks. This is the second issue of this kit which has Japanese kill markings on the nose of the aircraft in the artwork. Richard Kishady did the famous painting for this kit and originally included German kill markings on the nose of the P-39. Very shortly after this, Revell began to export kits to Europe. Shortly after World War II, many European countries banned the swastika. Revell changed the box art to Japanese kill markings, making the kit legal to sell in those countries. Never started. 100% inventoried complete with all parts/decals and instructions present. Inside, the kit has never been started and is complete. All small parts are still sealed in the factory bag. The decals are flat and have very little yellowing. The instructions are mint. It would be difficult to find a better example of this early kit.
