Please read the article on this website about older HO train kits and the modeling revolution they caused in the late 1930s/1940s. During the golden era of realistic train models, La Belle Woodworking Company created perhaps the very finest scale kits of early American passenger equipment. The kit features die cut hardwood parts (no balsa) such as pre-cut and scribed sides with all windows (including arches) factory cut, car ends done in the same fashion, carved clerestory roof, tinted clear clerestory window material, working end diaphragms, underside details, metal details, building instructions and full size plans. I have seen these models built and they look identical to the real prototypes. The kit has not been started and is complete with all parts, sealed smaller details and plans.

As a bonus this kit includes two large, color photographs of an actual Wasp Engine on a stand and two Hamilton Standard decals for the kit prop. The model itself is a very large (1/4 scale) and highly detailed kit. By far the finest working visible aircraft engine kit ever made. Comes with electric motor for operation. Transparent housings permit viewing the correctly working pistons, valves, rocker arms, connecting rods, cam and gears in action with synchronized firing of the spark plugs using red electric bulbs. Propeller also changes pitch. Kit is molded in clear, red, black, blue metallic and grey plastic. The box is in good condition with nice gloss and color as shown. Inside the kit is excellent with all cardboard inserts, insert tops with cellophane. The metal parts and bulbs are still in sealed in the original envelopes. The kit has never started. All other parts have been very carefully inventoried against the instructions and are 100% complete. Parts have been placed in number bags according the instruction steps.

Unusual issue from the early 1960s. Fantastic artwork by A. O. Kooyman of John F. Kennedy's PT-109 about to rammed. Very large and nicely detailed kit that is fully motorized for operation in water. This kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts, motor, decals, flag sheet and instructions. This kit has a fascinating history. It was originally produced by Varney in 1944 as a multi-media model. It was novel at the time as it had a wooden hull and cardstock deck but all injection molded tenite deck parts and details. That made it one of the first US ship kits to have extensive injection molded parts. But the world was not ready for this type of kit and dealers were hesitant to carry it - which resulted in low sales. Gorden Varney sold the molds for this kit and his other early kits to O-lin (Olsen and Lindberg). O-Lin reworked the kit using a vacuform hull, cardstock and tenite parts. When Lindberg took full control of O-lin, he went to an injection molded hull, colorful cardstock 'wood' deck and all polystyrene parts for the first issue. The second issue was all plastic with the metal stanchions and hand rails. The final version (this kit) has all injection molded parts with the obvious exception of the motorizing parts.

Original 1966 issue hardbox. The box had something glued to it at the lower left as you can see. Other than that, the box would grade 'Very Good'. It has bright colors and four solid corners. Inside, the kit has never been started. It is molded in the correct black and clear and includes the ocean base. The kit has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts and excellent instructions. Please note that Aurora did not issue this kit with decals. NOTE: the lower hull strip is broken. The two broken halves do not fit together well, so some light filling will be needed.
