Strombecker Cessna T-37A Tweet - USAF Jet Primary Trainer, 1/48, D33-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

From the mid 1950s. Strombecker was very well known for producing the finest pre-carved hardwood aircraft and missile kits, but they had a very short journey into the plastic model field. They made a total of 5 molds for plastic injected aircraft kits, the 1956 Sea Dart being the first. All were discontinued in the mid 1960s. One kit is this excellent T-37A, which after Strombecker's demise, was issued as an Aurora kit. This is a very nice kit for that time with operating landing gear, dive brakes and canopy, as well as 'good' cockpit detail and instruction and student pilot figures. Includes very colorful and extensive decals in 'excellent' condition and full instructions with two photos of the completed model and one photo of the real aircraft, exploded parts diagram and very nicely illustrated building steps. Molded in silver and clear. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The instructions and decals are in 'as-new' condition with yellowing as the only flaw. NOTE: the tiny nose probe, which was molded with the fuselage, is broken off and missing. It is easily replaced with pulled sprue if you wish. This was such a problem that Aurora modified the molds and made this a separate part.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

1978 issue. Well made 1/144 kit of the famous (or infamous) three-holer in the historic Laker colors. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. In 1971, air lines were highly regulated on both sides of the Atlantic. Freddie Laker thought he could fly passengers across the 'Pond' at a fraction of the current ticket prices. Using his successful experience from operating one of the most profitable UK charter airlines, Laker battled for years for permission to run his service at 1/3 of what the existing carriers charged. After 6 years, he finally won. On September 26, 1977, the Laker DC-10s began the first daily discount cross Atlantic flights from London to New York. Although Skytrain service has been long discontinued, Laker helped created the regulatory and business model for modern discount airlines, such as Southwest)

Rogers Motor Company Studebaker M-29 C Weasel - Army Personnel and Cargo Carrier, 1/12, 29C

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Rare, large 1/12 scale highly pre-fabricated kit from 1945. Very high quality wood and metal scale Weasel measuring 10.5 inches long when assembled. Features pre-cut and precarved hardwood parts for the main body and deck fittings, completely formed bogie wheels, die-cut fibre bogie chassis, numerous other very thick fibre parts, metal screen and metal stock as needed, complete interior, numerous other die cut parts, completely formed tread links, clear windshield, full decals and much more. Rogers spent a significant amount of time on the 'Photo-Plan' instructions, providing photos for each step and detailed text, full size plans and parts list. The kit has never been started. Inventoried as good as possible and appears complete with all parts, decals and full instructions with plans. There are no part numbers and assembly is by the plans; so inventory is very difficult at best. All the major parts are there but a small (easily made) wood part or two may have been overlooked. Please NOTE: the plans/instructions and professional photocopies on one big sheet of paper like the original. The original plans are missing. Rogers was an early producer of miniature gas engines for free-flight and early radio control model kits and often had large adds for these engines in hobby magazines. The full company name on the box is listed as 'Rogers Motor Company Detroit Michigan' and the 'Scale Model Division' is listed as Tawas City, Michigan. Right at the end of WWII, Rogers made a very short journey into kit manufacturing. As you would expect from an engine manufacturer, the kits were all true scale, highly prefabricated, had excellent detail and were fairly complicated. Rogers produced at least four kits - the 40MM AA Gun and Carriage (1/16 scale), Army Weasel, LST and an amazing, huge scale Sherman M4 tank with over 780 parts. These kits were likely produced in that order, with the LST being released around late 1945/early 1946. I have seen several of these kits built and they make excellent displays. And thanks to kit builder and collector Fran Fierko for some new and important kit history! Fran was able to track down the son of the designer of the five Rogers kits. Mr. John Hoenle Jr. was a master model builder who received a deferment from the draft in WWI to build recognition models for the military- some of which may still be on display at Wright-patterson AFB in Ohio. Mr. Hoenle is believed to have designed one other early kit, a civilian Chris Craft cabin cruiser. It is unknown if this kit was issued or not. Mr. Hoenle left Rogers to design promo models for Jo-Han, which is famous for their 1950s line of car kits.
