Aurora Boeing KC-135 Jet Stratotanker, 1/125, 143-130

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Dated 1963 and from ex-Comet molds. This is the largest of the two Comet molds and has cockpit and cabin clear windows and full landing gear and a 'tanker' rear end and flying boom (although the box art does not show it). Molded in gloss gray and clear. This model was given a clear Aurora two piece 'triangle world' stand, unlike many of the other Comet kits which only had a modified version of their original stands included. Of course this is not the production KC-135 but a model of the Boeing prototype. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Schmidt Mufferstadt Germany. I say this because their name is on the Ju-52 upper gun mounting mini-kit.

Midwest Wally Simmers' Sniffer - 29 inch Wingspan Contest or Sport Free flight Model Airplane, FG1

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Built for 'Sniffing Thermals', the honored pastime of a generation of model enthusiasts. Flying model aircraft predated powered flight; however, balsa wood and printwood were not introduced until the early 1930s and the hobby took off, as well as the hunt for thermals. Gas flight began in the early 1930s, and early gas powered models, all powered by Brown engines, took home so many awards that they were forever separated in competition from rubber powered models. Design of gas models was tricky since RC (radio control) models could not yet be applied to the mass market; so a gas model had to not only fly and climb under power, but then glide sufficiently - all without any operator inputs once the airplane took off. Getting the wing up out of the propeller airflow was a huge improvement, and this type of design proliferated. This is one example of a parasol (with a clever cabin) style 1940s free-flight competition aircraft designed by Wally Simmers. Quality kit includes printwood, strip wood, wheels, tissue and beautiful full size plans. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Comet Aeronca Sedan Struct-O-Speed Deluxe Issue, 2301

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Deluxe version; please read carefully. 1960s issue with a 13.25 inch wingspan. Comet would advertise that the Struct-O-Speed series 'Puts Itself Together...That Quick!' on the box top, and it was not a completely idle boast. This exactly model is highly prefabricated and more along the lines of a Speedee-Bilt than a Comet kit. Features a completely machine formed and finished wing with airfoil (like the Monofoil wing), other factory carved parts, die-cut and factory painted balsa sheet parts, a beautiful scale plastic full cowl, plastic prop and thrust bushing, fully formed wire landing gear and prop shaft/rubber hook, finished wheels, rubber motor, complete plans with instructions and even color insignia. Never started and complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Frog HS Buccaneer S.Mk 2A / S.Mk 50 - RAF No. 12 Sq Honington 1970 or South African SAAF No. 24 Sq Waterkloof 1970, 1/72, F238

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Typical high quality Frog kit with no rivets and fine panel lines for a realistic model. Features steering nose strut, four anti-ship missiles on wing pylons and optional position landing gear. Has decals for both Air Forces. Kit features opening unique rotating bomb bay, folding wings and working arresting hook. Never started. NOTE: missing display stand. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts, decals and instructions. The Buccaneer was the world's first purpose designed low level 'below the radar' bomber. Low level strike aircraft have a shorter airframe life limit due to the stresses of low level flying, so the Buccaneer was designed to be very strong and even had many sub-assemblies milled from solid metal.

The Royal Navy aircraft were called Kingfisher I and 100 of them were delivered with both wheel and float gear. The US Navy aircraft is that of Lieutenant William F. Eadie moved the most injured into the radio compartment while Rickenbacker and the other crew member were lashed to the wings.
