Pyro 1949 Ford Ragtop Convertible, 1/32, C298-60

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Mid 1960 Pyro hardbox issue that is advertised as being able to convert into a slot car racer (motor and chassis not provided). In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of their kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to. Features detailed (molded) chassis and suspension and complete interior. Molded in green plastic. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions.

Factory sealed bag with very good header. This model dates from the early or mid 1950s. Due to the instant and wide-spread popularity of the Revell Highway Pioneers, many companies jumped on the car model bandwagon and Premier was one of them. Cleveland 1933 Vought Corsair V-64 Biplane, 1/16, SF-41

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Dated 1934. This is a Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. This is the earlier simple cardboard box with the silver printing. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, covering material, highest quality plans, all parts required for assembly and decals (if issued with the kit). The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. NOTE: there is light bug damage to some paperwork. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane business- Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's great Recruiter- Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

First issue from about 1952. Molded in bright yellow plastic. Please note that this issue has no part number, and Revell called it the "International Harvester Truck." When the same kit was reissued around 1954, they called it the International Auto Wagon. Never started. All parts are still factory sealed in the early style 'krinkle' bag. With the early, simple, text-only instructions sheet. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

Guillows Cessna 180 - 20 inch Wingspan Balsa Flying Model, 601

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

One of the Junior Contest Flying Model Airplane series. Stick and tissue light weight flying kit. Includes all materials needed to build and fly the aircraft. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Aurora 1914 Stutz Bearcat American Classics Issue, 1/16, 156

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc+

Sold

Still factory sealed. 1974 issue of Aurora's 'Super Detailed Museum Model with Plated Parts.' Done in a big 1/16 scale, this kit and the other 'American Classics' (previously released as the 'Old Timers') represented a significant leap forward in quality for Aurora. The Bearcat builds up a rolling chassis with transaxle, suspension, exhaust and drive line detail and includes a detailed interior with separately molded instruments. Molded in bright red, black and with brass plated parts and real rubber tires. Aurora was renowned for turning a profit and for keeping expenses down. In researching new kit subjects, they came upon a forgotten jewel - the Hudson Miniatures line of 1/16 scale wooden kits. Hudson had discontinued this line due to lack of sales of wooden kits. But the Hudson models were second to none in quality, research and documentation. Aurora was quick to realize this and used the research and layout from these kits to create the subjects for this 'Old Timers' series. It is fortunate for us that they did, because in most cases this is the only injection molded kit of these rare and classic early automobiles.
