Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to. The model includes rubber tires, chrome plated parts, colored injection molded parts and clear parts.

Rare kit for the advanced collector. This is Monogram's fifth ship kit, issued in 1946. Measures 14 inches long when assembled. The hull and lower deck are pre-carved wood. The rest of the kit is printwood, wood and metal stock and cardstock. The air wing includes F6F Hellcats and TBF Avengers. The kit has never been started and is complete with all parts, full size instructions and even sandpaper.

Large and highly detailed waterline kit of a rare subject. Originally the freighter Cairo launched in 1936, she was converted to an armed merchant cruiser and broke out in May of 1942 - the last German merchant raider to do so. She operated in the South Atlantic for 4.5 months, sinking three ships. The Stier attacked the converted liner Pasteur (after the war, the German Bremen) but she was to fast and easily outranged the raider. She appeared to be headed for victory #4 when she spotted the SS Stephen Hopkins. The Hopkins was very badly outgunned on paper, but scored early and critically with her one 4" gun. The broadside from Stier was too much however, but by then both ships were mortally wounded. Only fifteen survivors made it to Brazil from the Hopkins, while only two from the raider were lost, with the rest picked up by the near-by supply ship Tannenfels. Features color printed high-quality cardstock - no painting required. The kit has not been started. The parts are complete and the sheets are uncut.

Museum quality, highly detailed kit that is 1/10 the size of the actual prototype. The kit is made from the same materials as the actual coach - hardwoods and metal. Almost all parts are die-cut and other parts are completely shaped, carved and drilled. There are many photoetched brass parts and brass/metal and wood stock as needed. Assembly is by detailed booklet with assembly photographs and full size plans. The extensive instructions have over 400 color photos. The kit has never been started. This is a Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. The kit came from a long time collector of 1930s and 1940s models and is in exceptional condition. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, covering material, highest quality plans, all parts required for assembly and decals (if issued with the kit). The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called 'The Aviation Craze' that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business, called Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviations great Recruiter, Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

1963 issue from ex-Comet molds. Neatly molded with all recessed panel lines, clear side and front windows, tip tanks, rotating propellers, display stand and full pinstripe decals. Molded in blue and clear. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including all parts, decals and instructions. Aurora had started a line of inexpensive 29 cent kits in about 1957. The line was a success, and it was expanded. The line grew again when Aurora purchased the Comet molds. Many of them were small scale civil aircraft like this one. It appears that Aurora was encouraged by the sale of the ex-Comet civil aircraft, as it expanded the line with it's own molds in the early 1960s.

Very Rare. Unique issue from about 1973. It includes all the same features as the 1969 Battle of Britain issue. The FW190/Beaufighter combination was only issued in the "Combat Series." Production numbers were very low vs. the BoB sets. This one was about 8,000 vs. 40,000+ for each BoB set. Features both model kits with a picture frame display stand. You can cut out the box art from the box top, put it in the picture frame and the frame has special stands for each model! The kit has never been started. The FW190 is still in the internal factory sealed bag and the Bristol has been inventoried 100% complete. Complete with picture frame and stands, large 'Frog Picture Frame Display Stands' instruction sheet, color painting guide (on the box side), aircraft instruction sheets and 'very good++' decals for both aircraft. Frog is considered the father of injection molded model kits. The Lines Brothers opened Frog in 1932, capitalizing on the fever caused by Lindberg's solo transatlantic flight. Almost overnight the western populations became 'Air-Minded', and anything aviation was in high demand. Frog created a quality line of stick and tissue rubber powered aircraft and gliders as well as innovative ready-to-fly rubber powered aircraft that required no assembly. The box even contained a built-in rubber motor winder and fuselage holder. Model airplane flight competitions were popular in Great Britain, and one category was 'Rise Off the Ground', or ROG. By changing this to 'Flies Right Off the Ground', the FROG name was born. In 1936 Frog created a line of injection molded plastic models, the first such kit line in the world (Hawk sold a line of injection molded aircraft models in 1934 but they were factory assembled and painted). Named 'Penguin' after the bird that does not fly, the kits were innovative beyond the means of production. At a time when models were simply built by wingspan, the Penguin line was a constant 1/72 scale. Furthermore, a large 1/72 Short S.30 Empire class flying boat contained a full interior and lights! A line of accessories such as AA guns, tractors, hanger, ambulance, sound locator, searchlights and lighting kits were quickly added to the line. WWII caused a pause in production. After the war the box color changed from silver to green, and Penguin kits were also marketed in the USA. Production ended in 1950. Frog quickly expanded and released the Red, Blue, Orange, Black, Green, Gold Token, Spin and Comet series as well as Trail Blazers and several others. It is noteworthy that while most manufacturers in the 1940s/50 were making toy-like models, Frog attempted to make very realistic models. For example, 'detailing' kits with excessively large rivets was once very popular. Frog ignored this trend and continued to mold aircraft with fine panel lines and no rivets. As a result, Frog kits can be built into very realistic replicas. Production ended in the late 1970s, but Frog molds are still in use around the world.
Hudson Miniatures 1903 Ford A Model, 1/16

Dated 1949 and very highly detailed for that time. Features numerous die-cut, machined and cut wood parts, beautiful plastic wheels, lights, steering wheel, horn and other accessories, metal parts and die cut cardstock. Although all of Hudson's 1/16 kits have excellent detail, this one has even more detail than usual thanks to Hudson's engineers having access to the actual car. This kit has never been started. The small parts are still in the internally sealed factory bag and the other parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete with all parts and plans/instructions. This car was one of the first Ford Automobiles and the first 'A' model. It sold for $900 in 1903. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.
