Scientific SS571 USS Nautilus Atomic Submarine Operating Model

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

NOTE: builder kit only. Please read carefully. A great operating model from the mid/late 1950s. The model actually cruises under it's own power, dives, runs submerged and surfaces again. Features a pre-carved hull, all hardware and metal parts as needed as well as full size plans and decals. NOTE: this kit has significant assembly. At one point, the lower hull was glued to the carved hull; it has since fallen off. The carved hull is still 'excellent' but the two parts that fell off are complete but in bad condition. I would suggest making new ones since they balsa and you have a perfect pattern with the original parts. The hull rubber band retainer has been neatly installed. There is no other assembly and zero painting. NOTE: missing the 'sail' and (4) antenna/periscopes & platform for same. Easily made from block and strip balsa. The patterns for the antenna/platform exist because the original die-cut sheet is present. Decals are present and in 'very good++' condition as well as the instructions. This kit comes with excellent, highly illustrated building and sailing directions including full size plans.

Berkeley Colonial Skimmer Flying Boat Flying Model Airplane Kit, 1/12, 4-11

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Big 1/12 scale model with a 33.5 inch wingspan. Originally designed by Henry Struck as a gas powered model for free flight or control line, or can be converted to electric power and modern RC (radio control) gear. Features covering material, clear windows, full size plans, formed wire parts, full size plans, die cut balsa and plywood parts and more. The model has not been started. NOTE: one clear windscreen (of three) is missing from the die-cut sheet. Easily made since the sheet makes a perfect template. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts, decals and plans present. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.
