Rare, large 1/16 scale highly pre-fabricated kit from 1945. Very high quality wood scale kit measuring 14 inches long when assembled. Features pre-cut and precarved hardwood parts, completely formed wheels, die-cut fibre detail parts, numerous other pre-shaped and factory cut parts and much more. Rogers spent a significant amount of time on the instructions, providing detailed assembly steps, a photo of the completed model, full size plans and a very large number of assembly detail drawings. The kit has never been started. The small parts are either still in factory sealed paper bags or inventoried complete. The parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried complete with full instructions with plans. Rogers was an early producer of miniature gas engines for free-flight and early radio control model kits and often had large adds for these engines in hobby magazines. The full company name on the box is listed as 'Rogers Motor Company Detroit Michigan' and the 'Scale Model Division' is listed as Tawas City, Michigan. Right at the end of WWII, Rogers made a very short journey into kit manufacturing. As you would expect from an engine manufacture, the kits were all true scale, highly prefabricated, had excellent detail and were fairly complicated. Rogers produced at least four kits - the 40MM AA Gun and Carriage (1/16 scale), Army Weasel, LST and an amazing huge scale M4 Sherman tank with over 780 parts. These kits were likely produced in that order, with the LST being released around late 1945/early 1946. I have seen several of these kits built and they make excellent displays. And thanks to kit builder and collector Fran Fierko for some new and important kit history! Fran was able to track down the son of the designer of the five Rogers kits. Mr. John Hoenle Jr. was a master model builder who received a deferment from the draft in WWII to build recognition models for the military- some of which may still be on display at Wright-patterson AFB in Ohio. Mr. Hoenle is believed to have designed one other early kit, a civilian Chris Craft cabin cruiser. It is unknown if this kit was issued or not. Mr. Hoenle left Rogers to design promo models for Jo-Han, which is famous for their 1950s line of car kits.

Still factory tape sealed. Very rare in this condition. This is a one owner kit purchased new on 9/6/65 at Mr. Wiggs in Lexington, KY. One piece of factory tape is intact, the other one fell off while going through the kits. As you know, it is impossible to open this box (because of the height and width) without breaking both pieces of tape. Early issue from the late 1950s or early 1960s. Excellent kit with detailed engine and compartment, opening hood, full interior, opening doors, optional supercharged engine version, detailed suspension and a very large number of custom parts.

Rare true first issue with the 'black' box style and beautiful art. Molded in yellow plastic. Features detailed engine, opening hood and good interior detail. NOTE: this kit has neat minor subassembly. The following are built (but not attached to anything else): 1. Engine, fan, radiator and axle (built to 'professional' quality), 2. Wheels halves ('professional' quality), 3. Front fender halves ('near mint+' quality). There is no other assembly and zero painting. Inventoried and the actual car is complete but NOTE: missing the figure. With instructions. This was one of Pyro's first car kits. On the side, there are color illustrations of the Lincoln Continental, Duesenburg Roadster J, Cord Convertible and Pierce Silver Arrow. Interestingly, the Duesenburg and Pierce Arrow in 1/24 scale were projected; for one reason or another Pyro never cut the molds so they were never issued.

Modern reissue of the 1960s/70s classic large-scale, well detailed kit. Can be flown rubber free flight, gas free flight, or converted to electric RC using modern small and light servos and receivers. Features quality die-cut balsa parts, stripwood and spars, excellent vacuform full engine cowl, scale wheels, thrust button, clear window material, rubber motor, plastic prop, metal stock, diecut firewall for gas engine option, big decal sheet and superb full size plans and detailed instructions. Never started and complete. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.
