Fador 1905 REO Runabout, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Rare kit dated 1949. Very well detailed for that time. Big-scale model features numerous die-cut, machined and saw-cut wooden parts, excellent plastic wheels, grill, steering wheel, lanterns and horn, other metal parts and metal stock and die-cut cardstock parts. Come with superb, large fold out plans that show four elevations drawings, many various detail drawings, a photo of the finished model and extensive text instructions. The kit has never been started. The small parts are still factory bag sealed and the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. Fador was another maker of big 1/16 classic cars and competed with the bigger Hudson Miniatures. Fador called the line 'Smallersters' and the design & parts breakdown of the kits are very similar. The full name was Fador Mfg. Company and the address was 501E. Clinton St., Elmira, NY. Hudson Miniatures, launched in 1948, apparently beat Fador to the market by at least a year or more. Hudson's national success probably lead Fador to choose the same subject (antique cars) and in the same scale, 1/16. Hudson snatched up the most obvious classic automobiles for kit subjects, forcing Fador to select very carefully. Fortunately, they chose well and they are still the only models ever made of these subjects. There is no record of Fador making any plastic kits; the introduction and overwhelming popularity of the Revell/Gowland Highway Pioneers and the models that quickly followed probably drove them out of the market. This was the fate of most wooden kit manufacturers who did not make the transition. In 1949 the Fador line consisted of a 1909 Hupmobile Roadster, 1904 Cadillac Runabout, 1905 REO 4 Passenger Runabout and one kit that was "3 In 1' - it made one of the following: 1909 EMF Single Rear Seater, 1909 EMF Touring or EMF Roadster. The Baker Electric kit was introduced in 1950 and possibly others as well.

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

All of them have a photo of a P-51, but the kit inside is a Corsair as stamped on the box end. The Consolidated 'Deluxe Models' were excellent kits and highly prefabricated. The were solid wood (no tissue) U-control model designed for 1/2 A size engines. Features a factory carved upper and lower fuselage, shaped (profile cut) wings, horizontal and vertical stabilizers, fully formed main and tail wheels, balsa and metal stock, a wax paper envelope with hardware and smaller parts, decals and full size plans and instructions. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Consolidated Model Engineering Bay Ridge Pacer by Sal Tabi With Liquids - 53 Inch Wingspan

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Rare 1941 model and even rarer in unbuilt, complete condition. The Pacer was a Sal Tabi gas free flight design but can be easily converted to R/C and electric power. This model came from the estate of a very active & particular early aircraft kit collector. It is factory-new inside features quality balsa printwood, factory-cut-to-shape balsa blocks, stringers and spars, plywood firewall, hardwood parts (some factory cut and routed), silkspan covering material, a set of Trexler Balloon Wheels (still in the original box), two pages of detailed instructions and superb full-size plans. It even includes the liquids advertised on the box top - two sealed tins of dope and color. Never started and complete. The Pacer, like many other early gas aircraft, was designed to climb rapidly to maximum altitude then enter a very stable glide and 'Sniff For Thermals'- the honored pastime of a generation of model enthusiasts. Flying model aircraft predated powered flight; however, balsa wood and printwood were not introduced until the early 1930s and the hobby took off, as well as the hunt for thermals. Gas flight began in the early 1930s, and early gas powered models, all powered by Brown engines, took home so many awards that they were forever separated in competition from rubber powered models. Design of gas models was tricky since RC (radio control) models could not yet be applied to the mass market; so a gas model had to not only fly and climb under power, but then glide sufficiently - all without any operator inputs once the airplane took off. Getting the wing up out of the propeller airflow was a huge improvement, and this type of design proliferated. This is one example of a parasol (with a clever cabin) style 1940s free-flight competition aircraft.

Fador 1908 Baker Electric, 1/16

The kit has never been started. The small parts are still in the internal factory sealed bag and the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. We think of electric cars of new; nothing could be further from the truth. From 1900 to 1915 at least 25 well-known electric car manufacturers advertised vehicles which '...were clean, quite, stylish and easy to operate - the only car for a lady.' And how true this was! Early automobiles were notoriously noisy with dirty exhaust and the constant requirement to handle smelly gasoline by hand. The Baker Electric was one of the longer ranged models - when all six batteries were fully charge it could travel about 75 miles - acceptable even today for a commute. The wheelbase was 80 inches and it had a convertible top that could be lowered or raised.
