ITC US Navy WWI Submarine Chaser (Sub Chaser) - ex-ITC, 1/74, C-582-200

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

The US Navy WWI Submarine chaser was a 110 foot wooden vessel that carried a crew of 25 and were armed with a 3 lb deck gun and a 'Y' gun for discharging depth charges. The ships proved valuable in combating the German U-boats in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. Some were updated and saw service in WWII. This is the large and nicely detailed ex-ITC kit from the 1960s. When ITC discontinued plastic kit production, 'Ringo' was the name give to the 'clearing house' company that cleansed the ITC warehouse of left-over stock. Ringo kits normally did not come with decals or flag sheets - this kit is no exception. The kit has not been started. The small (black) parts are still in the factory sealed bag. The larger (yellow) parts have been inventoried complete. With instructions.

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc

Sold

Still factory sealed. Kit features balsa sheet construction (no tissue needed), building instructions, hardware, wheels and canopy material (if required and propeller. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998. When sales sagged, Comet's response was the easier to build Struct-O-Speed series with a significant amount of prefabrication that dramatically reduced assembly time. Light and well designed, these kits flew well.

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Rare. The only kit issued of this unique subject. Features very finely cast resin main parts, many photoetched brass parts, full decals and instructions including a painting guide. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The Hafner Rotabuggy (formally known as the Malcolm Rotaplane and as the M.L. 10/42 Flying Jeep) was a British experimental aircraft that was essentially a Willys MB combined with a rotor kite, developed with the intention of producing a way of air-dropping off-road vehicles. Although initial tests showed that the Rotabuggy was prone to severe vibration at speeds greater than 45 miles per hour, with improvements the Rotabuggy achieved a flight speed of 70 mph on 1 February 1944. The last test flight occurred in September 1944, where the unit flew for 10 minutes at an altitude of 400 feet and a speed of 65 mph, after being released by a Whitley bomber, and was described as "highly satisfactory." However, the introduction of gliders that could carry vehicles (such as the Waco Hadrian and Airspeed Horsa) made the Rotabuggy unnecessary and further development was canceled.
