Original dealer promotional model in 'good' condition. The body is much better than average and unusually straight; there is slight 'dishing' on the roof as usual. The original friction drive is intact. Factory plastic and red paint colors are original but have general wear and age foxing as shown. The clear is 'excellent' but can use cleaning. The tires are almost like new - if it was played with, it was not for long. No parts are missing and it is original except that the chassis has been painted black and some of the fine trim (door handles, trim, etc) has been correctly and very neatly adult painted. The quality is good enough to pass for factory paint.

From the early to mid 1970s. Comet would advertise that the Struct-O-Speed series 'Puts Itself Together...That Quick!' on the box top, and it was not a completely idle boast. These kits were very highly prefabricated for their time, and in comparison to the regular stick and tissue models, the claim is not unfounded. Features die cut and factory balsa wood parts, clear vacuform canopy, formed and finished wheels, plastic prop & thrust button, rubber motor, color insignia and plans/instructions. Never started and inventoried complete. Has a 13" wingspan when assembled. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
