1982 issue from the original 1970s molds. Large 21 inch long kit that is well detailed for that time. Features detailed conning tower and periscopes, swiveling anti-aircraft guns, detailed torpedo tubes, rudder and screws and a display stand. The kit has never been assembled but NOTE: the propellers and stand bases are very neatly airbrushed bronze (props) and black (stands). It has been inventoried and the actual submarine is complete but NOTE: missing (2) parts, the front of the stand and the name plate. Otherwise complete with all other parts and includes decals and instructions. USS Growler was captained by Commander Howard W. Gilmore. On February 7, 1943, Growler was patrolling on the surface in the Pacific when an enemy vessel was spotted close aboard. The enemy changed course to ram and succeeded, leaving Growler and the Hayasaki crippled. However, Hayasaki opened fire with .60 caliber machine gun fire from close range, mortally wounding Commander Gilmore. His dying words were 'Take her down.' He remained on the bridge while the sub crash-dove to safety. Gilmore received the Navy Cross, Gold Star and a posthumous Medal of Honor.

First issue from 1958. Little John was a light-weight free-flight rocket that was highly mobile. It could be pulled on its launcher or transported by helicopter. Length was 12 feet long and the warhead was atomic. The Dart was a very early, five foot long wire-guided anti-tank missile with a solid propellant rocket motor. An optical rangefinder was used for guidance. Both models are well detailed. The Dart includes four missiles, one launcher, three stands, decals, one optical guidance unit and a crew of three. The Little John includes a detailed launcher with elevating rails, movable support legs, decals and crew of three. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The box actually displays significantly better than the 'excellent' rating but is graded as such because there is a very small tear on the lower right corner on the short side and a small 1/2" x 1/4" tape tear on the lower long side.
