This gift set featured all four aircraft in the originally-molded vivid colors as well the R3C-1 with landing gear (shortly after this, the molds were modified to make it a floatplane). The Gee Bee is molded in bright gloss red, the Laird Solution in a gloss antique gold, the Ike in bright white and the R3C-1 in brilliant yellow. Inside, everything is just like it left the factory. The kits have not been started. All four are still sealed in the original stapled bags. Includes special one-piece instruction sheet and correct one-piece decal sheet.

Hawk RE-8 - Solid Wood Aircraft Model, 1/48, 56

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$36

Rare model from 1946 for the advanced Model Collector. Hawk was one of the few manufacturers making wooden kits to a constant scale of 1/48. However, the company was innovative as it quickly included injection molded accessories. This model features profile (2D) cut wooden fuselage, wings and tail feathers, injection molded wheels, propeller & machine gun, wooden stock as needed, metal seat, full color decals and high quality, full-size plans that include a markings guide for various dates, detailed rigging diagrams, templates, exploded parts diagram, aircraft history and more. Never started and complete. The decals are intact but have typical age cracking.

$42

Softbox issue dated 1959 with Bill Campbell artwork. Hawk Chrome Plated Lockheed U-2 - (Authenti-Plate), 1/48, 300-300

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$48

Ideal builder. The chrome is in 'very good' to 'very good+' condition and the decals and instructions are 'excellent.' Slight yellowing is the only flaw on both. 1962 hardbox kit with Bill Campbell artwork. Completely chrome plated; it is difficult to find the chrome in this good of condition (please note that 'very good' is not mint, but is more like 'just above average'). Large scale with 20 inch wingspan. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and decals & instructions.

Hawk Triangle Box F4D Skyray, 1/72, 402

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$95

Very rare 'Triangle Box' issue from the late 1950s. Hawk tested this novel and colorful box only with the Skyray. Dealers found it difficult to stack with other kits and it was discontinued. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. This box is 'very good.' Fortunately, this one even missed the factory tape sealing machine. There are no price tags and no other tape. The box has not been repaired. There is edge wear, some creasing and a short tear on the bottom but no litho or cardboard is missing.

This is the late 1950s hardbox issue with great Bill Campbell artwork. The kit features very fine panel line detail and recessed control surface outlines, extensive and very colorful decals for the aircraft shown on the boxart, pilot bust, standing pilot figure, two mechanics, drop tanks, full landing gear and more. Hawk F-84F Thunderstreak - Very Early One-Piece Box Issue, 1/72, 606

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$58

Very rare 'flip top' box Hawk kit from the early 1950s. Hawk was a manufacturer of 1/48 constant scale solid wooden models well before plastic, but they jumped on the plastic band wagon very early. Most of the first issue 'flip box' plastic kits were 1/48 - this kit, however, is one of the earlier 1/72 scale kits from Hawk. Inside, this model is 100% accurate for this issue. It is molded in the correct green-tinted clear canopy & silver with the early style 'teardrop' base stand and correct instructions and decals. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Thanks to Jean-Claude who told me that the boxart shows a standard F-84F but in reality the model inside is of prototype YF-96A, (aka YF-84F), s/n 49-2430. this aircraft was later modified to become the YRF-84F parasite fighter in combination with GRB-36F.It is on display at the USAF Museum, Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio.

Hawk Nieuport 17 - Very Early Flip-Top Box Issue, 1/48, 706

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair+

$38

First issue from the early 1950s in the one-piece box. Molded in high gloss yellow and black. The model has not been started. Complete with instructions and all parts. This kit is from early in this first issue, and the first kits were not issued with decals. In the 1920s through the 1940s Hawk made constant scale 1/48 aircraft kits from wood. In 1946 they added plastic injection molded kits to the line and were possibly the first injection molded kit manufacturer in the USA. When Hawk made an early jump to all-plastic kits they kept the 1/48 scale and created these new one-piece boxes with two color artwork.

Hawk Laird Solution Racer, 1/48, 628-60

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$18

Softbox issue dated 1962 with great Bill Campbell box artwork. Very nicely molded kit for that time with excellent fit, fine recessed panel lines and raised rib lines. The aircraft includes all other parts, decals and instructions but NOTE: missing display stand. The Laird Solution won the first official Thompson Trophy Race in 1930 at the Curtiss-Wright Reynolds Airport in Chicago. The Laird was the only Biplane to win the Thompson and it beat all the military aircraft. Charles 'Speed' Holman was the pilot and was the first civilian to attain a speed over 200 mph in a closed course event nationally. E. M. Laird Airplane Company built the aircraft for BF Goodrich. Construction began only 3 weeks before the race. There was only one 10 minute trial flight before the aircraft won the race.
