Revell US Army Tactical Missiles Little John and Dart With Launchers - 'S' Issue, 1/40, H1812-98

First and only issue from 1958 with 'S' box art. Little John was a light-weight free-flight rocket that was highly mobile. It could be pulled on it's launcher or transported by helicopter. Length was 12 feet long and the warhead was atomic. The Dart was a very early wire guided anti-tank missile with a solid propellant rocket motor. An optical rangefinder was used for guidance. It was 5 feet in length. The models these are well detailed. The Dart includes four missiles, one launcher, three stands, decals, one optical guidance unit and a crew of three. The Little John includes a detailed launcher with elevating rails, movable support legs, decals and crew of three. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present.

Still factory sealed but the seal has split from age. Revell-Kikoler Brazil issue from the popular original 1958 'S' molds. 1987 reissue of the original 1967 kit. Very nicely done kit. Features 20 SBDs, 20" long hull, movable cranes and optional position elevators. The box art shows the wartime finish, but the kit contains decals for this or the prewar high-vis finish. The kit has never been started. Inside it is still factory bag sealed and includes decals and instructions. The Yorktown was one of three prewar sister carriers along with Enterprise (CV-6) and Hornet (CV-8). The Yorktown saw extensive action in the Coral Sea and underwent temporary repairs in record time so she could take part in the Battle of Midway. Damaged by bombs and eventually a spread of submarine-fired 'Long Lance' torpedoes, she was lost after an epic struggle to save the ship.

In rare, 'Excellent++' box condition. 1953 first year issue molded in a beautiful dark red. The kit has never been started. The parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag. Complete with instructions. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

Features 4 torpedo tubes, 2 twin .50 caliber machine guns, 20mm cannon, life raft, 4 crew figures, rudder & propeller detail and more. The model has never been started. Please NOTE that the decals have bug damage to the backing paper only; the actual transfers have no damage; the box is only good because it has bug damage to the lithograph along the box edges and two left corners as shown.

1977 Revell Takara Japan issue with high-gloss box art only seen on this release. Like most of Revell Japan kits, it has special features. First, there is greatly expanded decal sheet and paint guide that covers 3 different aircraft from 1940 & (2) from 1941; there is also a section entitled 'More Modeling' which includes a paint guide for the CR-42CN from 1941 for which Revell includes some (but not all) of the decals. There is also a full color Revell Takara double-sided paint color reference guide. Also includes rigging diagram & tips.
