Mandrill Convair XF2Y Sea Dart - Supersonic Float Plane - With Rivet Detail - (ex Strombecker) - (YF2Y-1), 1/60

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$69

Rare Mandrill reissue of Strombeckers famous Sea Dart model from the 1950s. This was a bagged-only release and never had a box. Molded in dark blue plastic. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes the correct Mandrill-issued instructions. Please NOTE that Mandrill did not furnish decals with this kit. Strombecker was very well known for producing the finest pre-carved hardwood aircraft and missile kits, but they had a very short journey into the plastic model field. After making the Sea Dart kit in 1956, they added four more for a total of 5 injection molded aircraft kits. All were discontinued in the mid 1960s. The Sea Dart was a supersonic design that could take off and land from water using retractable hydro-skis. Five prototypes were built and over 300 test flights made. The advent of the super carrier spelled the end of the Sea Dart, although 4 still exist on display today. Mandrill was founded by Bob Bennett in 1988 and he purchased the Strombecker molds from Polk's Hobby and Modelcraft. This kit was released in 1989. Mandrill also re-issued the plastic 1/130 scale Strombecker Martin China Clipper in a plain white box with no decals or instructions. These are the only two known releases from Mandrill.

Huma Model Arado Ar-396 - Bagged, 1/72, 3003

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$18

The highly successful Ar-96 was an all metal aircraft designed by Walter Blume. It first flew in 1938 and quickly became the Luftwaffe's standard advanced trainer for the duration of WWII. The Ar-396 was a direct development of the Ar-96; the main difference was that it used less strategic materials. The Ar-396 A-1 was single-seat gunnery trainer that was powered by an Argus As 411 engine and built largely from wood. This model is the two seater version, which would appear to be the A-2 instrument trainer. Still factory sealed. Nicely molded model with recessed panel lines, good cockpit, crew, bomb load and more. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Model builds any of three versions - two seater with gunnery position / Multi-role night intruder / two seater with enclosed canopy and spatted wheels. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present.

A further development of the Fl-265, flight tests showed that the Fl-282 was an excellent helicopter. It even flew from destroyers and minelayers while underway in the Baltic and Med. 1000 were ordered, but by the end of WWII only 24 had been built.
