Very rare and early Hawk kit in the first issue, one-piece flip top box. It is widely accepted that the Hawk version is superior in scale fidelity to the Aurora release. Includes a clear display stand with "Lockheed F-90" on the base. The kit has never been started. The clear parts are still factory sealed. The gloss silver parts are inventoried 100% complete. Includes decals in "excellent++" condition and instructions that are "excellent." The box is in very good condition as shown. Aurora, in an attempt to enter the plastic kit market as quickly as possible, bought the Hawk F-90 and quickly copied it to create their own model. This caused more than one tense moment at the big Toy and Hobby Shows when both companies were present.

First issue dated 1968 of this legendary kit that has 'A First In Modeling - Realistic Jet Sound!" This exact model came from the estate of Monogram's designer for this kit. This detailed model features 207 pieces, crew of three and cockpit, elevating and traversing rear turret, opening and closing bomb bay doors, operating wing flaps, operating spoilers, optional position entry hatch and landing gear, optional parts to display one nacelle open to show the jet engine and more. Molded in the correct green & clear plastic and with metal parts, wire and motor for jet sound. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts present. Includes decals and instructions. NOTE: there are two decal sheets present; each one has damage. Between the two you can make a 98% complete sheet. The white internal parts presentation cardboard is not present and there is no 'Monoglue' cement. The latter is not usual as Monogram eventually stopped including it with this issue. The box is graded as 'very good' condition but does have one closed corner split at the lower right.

Rare and even more so in this condition. This model is part of the deluxe high-cost Comet "Y" kit line from the 1950s. Note the box showing a bottle of Coke next to the young builder's snack tray and a finished aircraft. This big-wingspan model features traditional stick-and-tissue construction, high quality printwood, factory-cut stripwood and spars, balsa nose and spinner blocks, fully formed wooden thrust buttons, scale wood propellers, two metal propeller shaft/rubber hooks, other wood stock as required, completely preformed wood nose and main wheels, clear canopy material, one big insignia sheet that also has windshield cutting patterns, air scoops and other details, another large sheet with fillets, gear doors and many other patterns, covering tissue and superb full size plans with instruction notes. The model has not been started. It has been inventoried complete. At the time of this kit, the entire Comet "Y" line consisted of Y1 F-51 Mustang, Y2 A-26 Invader, Y3 P-47, Y4 Hellcat F6f, Y5 P-38 Lightning, Y6 F-84F Thunderflash, Y7 Cougar F9F, Y8 Taylorcraft, Y9 Douglas Skyray F4D, Y10 Piper Cub Super Cruiser, Y11 Douglas Skystreak D558-1, Y12 F-86 Sabre, Y13 Gull and Y14 Aeronca Chief. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Rare first issue dated 1955; please note early rectangular 'Aurora Line' Logo and 'Famous Fighters of All Nations' script. Features movable control surfaces, very good cockpit, two crew members, bomb load, detailed twin-row engine, rotating propeller, working arresting hook and more. This early issue has the correct 'rectangle-base' clear stand. The instructions are correct and reflect as well, as does the decal sheet which is correct in not having a stand decal. The instructions are 'excellent' and the decals are almost flat (the the slighest curl on one end), 100% intact and also graded 'excellent' with light age yellowing. Never started. First issue dated 1957 with classic Jo Kotula artwork. This model is part of the famous WWI 1/48 scale series of aircraft issued by Aurora starting in 1956. Molded in the correct gloss olive drab and black plastic, including figures and the ground base with chocks. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Besides it's distinguished career in WWI, the DH-4 saw extensive post war service in numerable ways. One of the most interesting was as a United States Post Office air mail service aircraft. The aircraft's likeness even graced an airmail stamp of the time. In about 1925, the Post Office decided to upgrade. The prototype was the Douglas M-1 and an improved version, the M-2, became the next mail carrier. The M-2 is also an Aurora kit in the same scale.

Rare very early issue from 1956 with Northern Lights logo and the 69 cent price circle on the right of the box top. What is most unusual is that the price is within a red-filled circle; this is the first instance of this that I have seen. Just when you think you have Aurora's kit history figured out, they throw you another curve ball! Molded in the correct glossy dark green and black. Decals and instructions are correct for the first issue as well. There is no assembly but NOTE: the outlines of the Maltese crosses have been painted on the wings and fuselage. You can remove this paint with any safe plastic paint stripper - I personally like spray-on oven cleaner. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present.
