Anigrand 1/72 Rockwell International XFV-12A VTOL, AA-2026 plastic model kit

1/72 AA-2026 Anigrand Rockwell International XFV-12A VTOL

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Very highly detailed resin kit that is very finely molded. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. In 1972, the U.S. Navy issued a request for proposals of the next generation V/STOL close-support fighter as a follow-on to the McDonnell-Douglas AV-8A. The specifications called for supersonic speed capability and the ability to operate from small ships. Rockwell International responded with the 'thrust-augmented wing' design. This concept led to Navy’s interest and Rockwell was fully funded for the development with one mockup and one prototype, designated XFV-12A. It used a modified 30,000lb thrust engine to run ducted air from engine sides to the tilting ejector flap in the canard and main wings. The flap could rotate in pointing vertical for take off or landing. The first hover-rig test for vertical flight was taken in 1978 but the result was not successful as the exhaust thrust was less than expected. Due to cost over-runs and no clear improvements to the design in subsequent years, the Navy decided to cancel the project in 1981.
