Very rare, large and detailed model. Sterling was once the undisputed king of large RC wood and metal ship kits, having a complete line of Chris Craft yachts, merchantman 'American Scout', battleship USS Missouri, Texaco Lumba Lumba, Schooner Emma C. Berry and this legendary racing schooner Yacht American. The optional ship fittings kit B-22M is included also. This is a kit of the ship built by W.H. Brown of New York and launched on May 3, 1851. Her initial claim to fame was the winning of the Hundred Guinea Cup, which then became known as the America's Cup. She served with distinction on both sides of the US Civil War but was destroyed when a protective shed collapsed on her in 1944. The model represents the ship as she was rigged at launch and up to 1859. Features accurately die cut balsa an imported birch plywood, birch decks with planking groves printed in, tapered masts, booms and spars, miniature rope in the correct color and size for standing and running rigging, fine quality sail cloth, metal chain, hardware, full size plans and instructions. Can be built for static display, single channel rudder, or full RC of the rudder and sails. The kit has never been started. The small fittings are still in the Sterling factory sealed bag. All other parts were never factory sealed have been inventoried 100% complete including all die cut wood sheets, flags, clear material for windows and superb plans with instructions.
