1/181 C&S ZMC-2 Metal Clad Blimp US Navy - 10 Inches Long - (ZMC2)
Wood Model Kit, Box Condition: Fair
Rare 1930s model of this early US Navy Blimp. The ZMC-2 (Zeppelin Metal Clad 200,000 cubic foot capacity was the only successfully operated metal-skinned airship ever built. She was built at Naval Air Station Grosse Ile by The Aircraft Development Corporation of Detroit. ZMC-2 was operated from 1929 to 1941 by the U.S. Navy at Lakehurst, New Jersey base. She was scrapped in 1941. During her service ZMC-2 completed 752 flights for 2265 hours of flight time. This model was made by C&S Model Company, Trenton, New Jersey. They had quite a line of airships as I have seen their adds in very old Model Airplane News magazines. This kit has stick and tissue construction and features printwood, stock wood parts, stringers, blocks, covering tissue and full size plans. The model has not been started. All smaller parts are still wrapped in the factory tissue paper. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and paperwork included. The box displays much better than 'fair' but I have listed it as such because the end flaps are all missing one one side and other includes an end flap that is no longer connected. This kit is advertised on the short side panel as being 12 inches long; however, it measures 10 inches long on the plans.
