2205-49 Comet Cessna 140 Struct-O-Speed Flying Balsa Model
Wood Model Kit, Box Condition: Exc
It's rare to find any kit of the Cessna 140; this may be the only one ever made. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. They lead the low-priced kit revolution in the 1930s with their famous adds in Model Airplane News. Comet reached it's peak when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg, who had made a name for himself with famous designs that won the Nationals during the 30s and articles in Model Airplane News. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Sales sagged after WWII as they did for all balsa kit manufacturers but Comet survived till bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998. When sales sagged again in the 1960s, Comet's response was the easier to build Struct-O-Speed series with a significant amount of prefabrication that dramatically reduced assembly time. Light and well designed, these kits flew well. Kit features balsa sheet construction, detailed full size plans, building instructions, hardware, wheels and canopy material (if required), tissue and propeller. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.
