Monitor and Merrimac with Diorama Seascape Base - Great Moments In History

$58

Very nice package with both kits, a full color poster of the battle from the original Ray Gaedke box art done in the 1950s, a nice brochure with an illustrated history of the battle, paints and brush, blue plastic seascape battle display base and full decals. These are the two American Civil war ships that spelled the end of the wooden ship age. In March of 1862, the Merrimac put to sea to raise the Union Blockade off the James River. There she sank the Cumberland and Congress. The Monitor, the Union's only ironclad and the first turret ship, was rushed to the scene. The epic battle between the two iron-clad ships ended in a draw, with the Merrimac suffering a little more damage than the Monitor. The Merrimac was blown up to avoid capture; the Monitor sank in a gale in 1862.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Admiral Sheer German Heavy Cruiser / Pocket Battleship

$34

1970s 'Yellow' box issue and a very nicely detailed, full-hull kit of this famous sister to the Graf Spee. These kits are still in demand for their detail and accuracy, since Heller did their research in identifying the differences between Scheer, Spee and Lutzow. These are integrated into these kits down to the porthole differences. A very nicely detailed, full-hull kit of this famous sister to the Graf Spee. She saw heavy action and was Germany's most successful capital ship surface raider of WWII. She was also a fairly luck ship and survived to very near the end of the war. While in port, most of her crew was ashore and an RAF bombing raid capsized the ship. She was scrapped after the war but part of the hull was used for fill for a quay. This model is very well detailed with 200 pieces. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals, metal chain and instructions.
