Classic Warships HMS Lion Battlecruiser - Lion Class 1909-1913 - (HMS Princess Royal), 1/700, CW042

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

$135

Rare kit features a fantastic resin cast waterline hull of higher quality than any injection moldings could achieve, large details cast in resin and a very large number of precision cast metal small parts, metal stock and a well detailed set of instructions with the ship and class history. These resin castings are professionally done and appear to have been done in a pressure chamber as I cannot spot any air bubbles. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions, exploded parts diagram and excellent side and top detail drawings. I have listed HMS Princess Royal because the manufacturer listed the instructions as "HMS Lion and Princess Royal." I do not know what changes (if any) must be made to do Princess Royal and the instructions do not list them. Thanks to James Natt for giving us this history: 'Classic Warships' was by Steve Wiper, who (as of 2022) still produces the 'Classic Warships Profiles' in soft cover. These resin kits were well produced and included everything except photo etch. He stopped producing these models around 2000 and sold all his molds and to Chris Decker. Chris re-boxed, improved the instructions, added decals and Tom's Modelworks photoetch (both where appropriate) and sold them under the label 'Midship Models'. That ended around 2010. Both the original CW and later Midship Models are much sought after by ship modelers, especially the USN battleships.

Very highly detailed and well molded resin waterline model kit. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes illustrated instructions. From my friend Dusty Rhodes: Several sources record that some unfortunate sheep gave their lives to demonstrate the lethality of the main battery's muzzle blast. The vessel was reported to have been exceedingly wet aft, especially under way, with a freeboard of about six feet. She was jocularly known among some English speakers as "The Angry Cat" (~ Henri Quatre). Although sometimes described as an eccentric and dangerous experiment in battleship design, The Angry Cat played a significant combatant role in the Eastern Med in the First World War and was damaged by Turkish shore battery fire in the Dardanelles.

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$48

Very highly detailed and well molded resin waterline model kit. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes illustrated instructions. Slava (Russian: "Glory") was a pre-dreadnought battleship of the Imperial Russian Navy, the last of the five Borodino-class battleships. Commissioned too late to participate in the Battle of Tsushima during the Russo-Japanese War, she survived while all of her sister ships were either sunk during the battle or surrendered to the Imperial Japanese Navy. She served in the Baltic Sea during World War I and was the largest ship of the Russian Gulf of Riga Squadron that defeated the German High Seas Fleet in the Battle of the Gulf of Riga in August 1915. She repeatedly bombarded German positions and troops for the rest of 1915 and during 1916. In 1917 Slava sustained heavy damage from the German dreadnought SMS König during the Battle of Moon Sound that significantly increased her draft. The shallow channel made it impossible to escape and she was scuttled in the Moon Sound Strait between the island of Muhu (Moon) and the mainland.

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$48

Rare and out of production. Very highly detailed and well molded resin waterline model kit. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes illustrated instructions. The Navarin (named after the battle of Navarino) was a pre-dreadnought battleship built for the Imperial Russian Navy.Based on the British Trafalgar-class battleship, she was built by the Galerniy Yard, St. Petersburg, laid down in 1889, launched on 20 October 1891, and completed in 1896.The ship was launched on the 64th anniversary of the battle of Navarino. The ship served as part of the Baltic fleet making a cruise to the Mediterranean Sea in 1896. The Navarin went to the Pacific in 1898 and took part in the suppression of the Boxer Rebellion in 1900. She then served in the Baltic Fleet from 1902. On the outbreak of the Russo-Japanese war she was sent out with the Second Pacific Squadron. She was sunk at the Battle of Tsushima by three torpedoes fired by Japanese destroyers. Only three sailors were rescued after four days in the water.

Combrig Hoche French Battleship 1886, 1/700, 70078

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$37

Very highly detailed and well molded resin waterline model kit. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes illustrated instructions. The Hoche was an early battleship of the French Navy. She used the 340mm/28 Modele 1881 gun as her main armament, like the Marceau class which followed. The Hoche was completed with a heavy but unarmoured superstructure that resulted in her being top heavy. This was later lightened. In 1892, off Marseilles, Hoche collided with the steamer Marechal Canrobert which sank with the loss of 107 lives. She was sunk as practice target by the Jaureguiberry and the Pothuau on 2 December 1913.

Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes and instructions. Borodino was the lead ship of her class of five pre-dreadnought battleships built for the Imperial Russian Navy in the first decade of the twentieth century. Completed after the beginning of the Russo-Japanese War in 1904, Borodino was assigned to the Second Pacific Squadron that was sent to the Far East a few months after her completion to break the Japanese blockade of Port Arthur. The Japanese captured the port while the squadron was in transit and their destination was changed to Vladivostok. The ship was sunk during the Battle of Tsushima in May 1905 due to explosions set off by a Japanese shell hitting a magazine. There was only a single survivor from her crew of 855 officers and enlisted men.

Combrig Peter Velikiy 1877 Russian Battleship, 1/700, ZA1877

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$34

Limited edition waterline kit. Features a beautifully cast resin hull and resin details. Detail is far superior to injection molded kits. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. From Dusty Rhodes: This was a remarkable vessel, continuing afloat and in service from immediately after the American Civil War to the time of Kruschev's premiership. This proverbial longevity was commemorated in a Russian postage stamp in 1972. In 1867, Russian naval officers were deeply impressed by USS Miantonomoh (1863) when that vessel visited Kronstadt. Peter Velikiy was Russia's effort to emulate the American ship, with an intent to improve her seakeeping abilities. This kit shows the ship in this as-launched configuration. Much later she was cut down to the berth deck and rebuilt as a heavy cruiser and bore no similarity to the original. Fortunately for Peter, this kept the ship in Russian yards during Russia's war with Japan. She served as a training ship and sub tender in WW I and was in service as a utility hulk from 1921 until some time after 1959.

In the late 1890s the Japanese shipyards were not quite yet ready for such a project, so the Navy contracted with Vickers in Great Britain to build this ship, which is actually a highly modified Formidable class. Mikasa saw a great amount of action at Port Arthur and the Battle of the Yellow Sea. She was preserved as a museum ship in 1923. Mikasa suffered from neglect during and after WWII, but was restored to her former glory in the 1950s after a campaign led by the Japan Times and Admiral Chester Nimitz. The Mikasa is the only surviving pre-dreadnought in the world.
