HMS Bristol (D23) was a Type 82 destroyer and the only vessel of her class to be built for the Royal Navy. She was intended to be the first of a class of large destroyers to escort the CVA-01 aircraft carriers projected to come into service in the early 1970s but the rest of the class and the CVA-01 carriers were canceled as a result of the 1966 Defense White Paper which cut defense spending.Following a long & successful career which included the Falklands War, she was converted into a training ship in 1987. In 1991 while part of the Dartmouth training squadron, she suffered a boiler explosion that damaged the vessel beyond economical repair. No longer having enough value to be sold to another navy, she became a Harbour Training ship. She was decommissioned in Portsmouth on 28 October 2020.

Features excellent quality, pressure-cast, high definition resin hull and superstructure, finely cast metal details, photoetched brass parts and more. Includes decals. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The Type 12 or Whitby-class frigates were a six-ship class of advanced anti-submarine frigates of the Royal Navy, which entered service late in the 1950s. They were designed in the early 1950s as first-rate ocean-going convoy escorts, in the light of experience gained during World War II. At this time, the Royal Navy were designing single-role escorts and the Whitbys were designed as fast convoy escorts capable of tackling high-speed submarines. However, this made the Whitbys more expensive and sophisticated to produce in large numbers in the event of a major war, and so the Type 14 'utility' or 'second-rate' anti-submarine frigate was developed to complement the Type 12. Although themselves rapidly outdated, the Type 12 proved to be an excellent basis for a series of frigate designs used by the British and Commonwealth navies for the next 20 years.

HMS Victorious was the third Illustrious-class aircraft carrier after Illustrious and Formidable. Ordered under the 1936 Naval Programme, she was laid down at the Vickers-Armstrong shipyard at Newcastle upon Tyne in 1937 and launched two years later in 1939. Her commissioning was delayed until 1941 due to the greater need for escort vessels for service in the Battle of the Atlantic. Her service in 1941 and 1942 included famous actions against the battleship Bismarck, several Arctic convoys, and Operation Pedestal. She was loaned to the United States Navy in 1943 and served in the south west Pacific as part of the Third Fleet. In 1944 Victorious contributed to several attacks on the Tirpitz. The elimination of the German naval threat allowed her redeployment first to the Eastern Fleet at Colombo and then to the Pacific for the final actions of the war against Japan. After the war, her service was broken by periods in reserve and, between 1950 and 1958, the most complete reconstruction of any Royal Navy carrier. This involved the construction of new superstructure above the hangar deck level, a new angled flight deck, new boilers and the fitting of Type 984 radar and data links and heavy shipboard computers, able to track 50 targets and assess their priority for interrogation and interception. The reduction of Britain's naval commitment in 1967, the end of the Indonesia–Malaysia confrontation, and a fire while under refit, prompted her final withdrawal from service, three to five years early, and she was scrapped in 1969.

Revell USS Yorktown CV5 Aircraft Carrier, 1/490, 5224

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

USS Yorktown CV5 Aircraft Carrier

$49

1987 reissue from the original 1967 molds. It is a fine kit for that time featuring a 20" long hull, detailed superstructure 'island', movable cranes, optional position elevators, 20 SBDs and all of the correct parts to differentiate Yorktown from her sisters Enterprise and Hornet. The box art shows the wartime finish, but the kit contains decals for this or the prewar high-vis finish. There is currently no assembly but NOTE: front anchor deck has very light glue on the back but was never assembled to the hull. Also, the anchor chain on it is neatly painted. The two deck supports were very lightly glued on, but so little glue was used that the supports fell out. There is no other work done to the kit. It has been inventoried complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. NOTE: one propeller blade is broken from one of the Yorktown's propellers. That blade is missing. The Yorktown was one of three prewar sister carriers along with Enterprise (CV-6) and Hornet (CV-8). The Yorktown saw extensive action in the Coral Sea and underwent temporary repairs in record time so she could take part in the Battle of Midway. Damaged by bombs and eventually a spread of submarine-fired 'Long Lance' torpedoes, she was lost after an epic struggle to save the ship.

The Project 58 Missile cruisers, known to NATO as the Kynda class were the first Soviet missile cruisers and a considerable advance for the Soviet Navy. Their main role was anti-surface warfare using the SS-N-3b 'Shaddock' missile. The design proved top-heavy and was soon succeeded by the larger Kresta I, but the Kyndas stayed in service until the fall of the Soviet Union.

Delphis Models De Cristofaro Class Corvette / Pietro De Cristofaro F540 / Umberto Grosso F541 / Licio Visintini F546 / Salvatore Todaro F550 - Circa 1970, 1/700, DM674

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

De Cristofaro Class Corvette / Pietro De Cristofaro F540 / Umberto Grosso F541 / Licio Visintini F546 / Salvatore Todaro F550 - Circa 1970

$46

This waterline model is cast in high-definition resin and has higher quality detail than injection molded kits in the same scale. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. The De Cristofaro class were beaituful and successful ships. They were given a forecastle, which had never been done in a post-war Italian Corvette. They also had a transom stern, which was a departure from previous practice. As in the somewhat later Alpinos, they had a VDS, in their case a separate SQS-36 handled by a crane mounted on deck. There was also a medium-frequency hull sonar, reportedly a separate SQS-36. The 76mm gun was the successful OTO-Melara type, controlled by an OG 3 director (Orion RTN-7X radar), with an optical director (probably OG 1) aft. The single-barrel Menon mortar was mounted aft, in 'X' position. The power plant was two FAIT 3012 diesel engines and top speed was 23 knots. Cruising range was a very respectable 6,139 miles at 15.9 knots.
