Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: Exc++
$124
Fresh from old hobby shop stock with a box in 'Excellent++' condition. Somehow this box even escaped the factory sealing tape machine, as it has no sealing tape and no typical stains from the tape. The color and gloss are perfect, as are the corners. The only thing keeping it from grading higher is slight sun fading to the right short side panel. Revell took the excellent original F-104 molds and made this new issue by adding four then-new AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, ground missile trailer and ground crew. Molded in the correct correct gloss silver & clear and with the clear Revell Swivel Stand. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Decals and instructions are both in 'near mint' condition with very slight yellowing being the only flaw.

Never started and the parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. In 1944 the success of the Reich's jet fighter and bomber projects became obvious to all, so the USAAF defined a requirement for the first American jet bomber to be developmented quickly. Douglas proposed to modify the existing XB-42 airframe, then replaced the piston engines with a pair of turbojets to save both time and cost. The contract for two prototypes designated XB-43 was signed and 50 production aircraft were also planned in the same year. Due to early engineering problems, the jet engines were not shipped from GE to Douglas until July 1945. Additionally, the end of war caused a slowdown in development. The first XB-43 finally made its first flight on May 1946. Performance was satisfactory but the USAAF had moved ahead with the new four-engines bombers, the North American B-45 and the Convair XB-46. The 50 aircraft plan was canceled but the test program was still continued until 1951 when the first XB-43 was damaged in an accident. In late 1953 the second prototype was also retired.

Still factory sealed. This 15 Cent issue from the late 1960s or early 1970s. The famous and popular Jetfire features a light-weight plastic canopy with pilot outline and completely diecut balsawood parts with colorful red printing. It can be assembled in less than a minute and was ready to fly! Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2014.
