Midwest Fu-Bar (Fubar) 36 - 36 Inch Wingspan For Sport or Competition Free Flight, FG-2

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$62

Built for 'Sniffing Thermals', the honored pastime of a generation of model enthusiasts. Flying model aircraft predated powered flight; however, balsa wood and printwood were not introduced until the early 1930s and the hobby took off, as well as the hunt for thermals. Gas flight began in the early 1930s, and early gas powered models, all powered by Brown engines, took home so many awards that they were forever separated in competition from rubber powered models. Design of gas models was tricky since RC (radio control) models could not yet be applied to the mass market; so a gas model had to not only fly and climb under power, but then glide sufficiently - all without any operator inputs once the airplane took off. Getting the wing up out of the propeller airflow was a huge improvement, and this type of design proliferated. This is one example of a parasol style 1940s free-flight competition aircraft designed by Ray Matthews. This quality kit includes die-cut printwood, strip wood, finished nose wheel, tissue and beautiful full size plans. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and paperwork present.

Lindberg Douglas A4D-1 Skyhawk - (A-4), 1/48, 529-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$52

Rare early issue of the Prototype Skyhawk from the mid 1950s. This is the smallest box that anyone has dared place a 1/48 scale A-4 in and the classic box art is by Ray Gaedeck Box. For some reason, this issue is rarer than the other Lindberg kits of that time. This model represents the very early Skyhawk, which is no surprise; Lindberg, like Aurora, often tried to be 'first to market' and did not hesitate to use prototypes for kits. Features detailed jet engine, opening inspection panel, pilot and ejection seat, opening canopy, full landing gear, centerline drop tank, wing rockets and display stand. Never started and inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The box is graded 'good+' because you can just see a very light stain on and below the drop tank.

Lindberg LCVP Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel - PA-291 (L.C.V.P.) - Motorized, 1/32, 766M-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$64

1965 hardbox issue; likely the third issue and the first without Ray Gaedke artwork. Motorized for operation in water and features defensive machine guns, operating ramp and 6 figures - 3 Navy and 3 Army troops. Back in the day it was considered a nicely detailed large scale kit. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals, flag sheet and instructions.

Lindberg F-86D Sabre Jet Fighter, 1/48, 522-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+++

$89

Hard-to-find 1950s issue with incredible Ray Gaedke artwork. The box is in superb 'excellent+++' condition with like-new color and gloss, four solid corners, no price tags or tag marks, no tape or tape marks (except for the factory sealing tape of course), no fading and no litho damage. The only flaws are very slight wear. Features pilot and ejection seat, two piece canopy, optional fuselage rocket tray, full landing gear, two wing drop tanks and 8 wing mounted rockets. Molded in silver and clear and includes a display stand and very colorful decals for the box art aircraft Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, 'near mint' condition decals and instructions. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Marvel Douglas 8A-5 / A-33 Attack Bomber - Battle Planes Of America Series - Solid Wood Aircraft, 1/48

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair-

$34

Rare solid model from 1942. At that time, their were 'fliers' and 'solids.' 'Fliers' were notoriously off-scale so they would fly well and also lacked detail. 'Solids' were true scale models that were solid wood and designed only to be scale miniatures (they did not fly). This kit has a worn box missing the end flaps, but inside it is complete with all parts and full-size plans with instructions and a description of this rare aircraft. There are three sheets of printwood and a block for the fuselage. The model has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and plans present. Please note, this is war time model so compressed fibre-board has been substituted for balsa wood. Marvel Mfg. Company was located in Seaford, Long Island, New York and had an extensive line of solid aircraft, wooden ships, army tanks and more. Just as a small example, the following are advertised on the back of this larger-scale solid kit: Grumman JRF-2, Mariner PBM-1, Bell YFM-1, P-38, P-40, Baltimore, Ryan STM-2, Curtiss AT-9, Douglas A-20A, Republic Guardsman, Grumman Skyrocket and Douglas 8A-5.

Randles Kellett Autogyro YG-1B - XR-2, 1/42, 103D

Vaccuform Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$62

Very rare kit from the 1940s. This is a large (17 inch LOA) model of this 1930s craft. This unique ship had no ailerons, rudder or elevator. Directional control was through a pivoting rotor head. Rotor blades folded for storage. The KD-1 made the worlds first autogyro roof-top landing in May of 1935 at the US Post Office in Philadelphia. The plans say this is the XR-2 and YG-1B. The plans certainly look like the YG-1B Army Craft; the YG-1B was modified with a constant speed rotor and became the YG-1C; it was then redesignated XR-2. This craft is also known as a KD-1; the model will built any of the three. Features 2D (profile) carved fuselage, hardwood rotor blades, other precut parts and a sealed envelope of small parts. Includes excellent full size plans with many detail drawings, templates and construction notes. Never started. Complete with all parts, plans and unused glass bottle of glue (some of which is still a liquid). Randles was another name for Ranco and may have simply been the deluxe version of the Ranco kits as they shared the same address. Just a few of those kits include the B-29, Cessna Bobcat, Sikorsky Helicopter and Kellett Auto Giro. There is evidence that they made boat kits also.
