This is a Cleveland scale flying model in the agreed museum scale of 1/16. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete for the time and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, covering material, highest quality plans, all parts required for assembly and much more. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called 'The Aviation Craze' that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business, called Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviations great Recruiter, Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Very rare and even more so in an 'excellent' box and 'factory tissue sealed' inside. From the mid 1930s to the early 1940s. This is a Cleveland 'D' or dwarf kit. The term 'Dwarf' is just a bit deceptive, as it is Cleveland's designation for 1/24 scale. Most Cleveland kits were designated 'SF' or Scale Flying - 1/16 scale. The Dwarf kits were needed to fill a market demand for smaller flying models. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and Dwarfs were no exception, containing very high quality balsa printwood, stringers & spars, fully formed wheels, covering tissue, a wood propeller that is about 90% carved and just needs final sanding, gray rigging thread (if required), metal and balsa stock as required and more. With Cleveland's famous high-quality plans. Amazingly, this kit is still 'factory tissue sealed' inside. When the Cleveland workers packed each kit, they wrapped them in tissue that effectively made a seal which has not been disturbed. Whoever buys it will be the first one to see the contents since it was packed in the factory over 90 years ago. Very rare version and the rarest of all Aurora SE-5s. Note that the rectangular background for the oval 'Famous Fighters' logo is white and not the more common yellow. The two issues are identical other than the background color for the lower-right rectangle. The hardbox is dated 1956 with the original Jim Cox box art but with the 1957 oval 'Famous Fighters' logo. The original rectangle 'Northern Lights'; logo has been neatly blotted out with a white rectangle of the same size. The fact that the price is still 69 cents (as the original issue) means this issue is very late 1956 or very early '57. Molded in gloss olive green and black. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: there is a short tape tear on the lower long side measuring 1/2" x 1/4" and two dark, translucent tape stains (1" x 3/8") on the upper long side.
Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: Fair++
$54
From 1956 and the rare first issue of this classic kit. Please note the early rectangular logo "Aurora Line" logo. It is molded in silver and clear plastic and includes the correct early rectangular clear base Aurora stand, the correct instructions showing this base, and the correct early Tatem decals which Aurora issued without a stand decal. (Aurora included stand decals with the introduction of the triangular 'world' base style clear stand.) Molded in silver and clear plastic. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Please NOTE that the box displays better than the 'fair++' grade is because the box has a thin border of masking tape along the lower sides.
Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: VG+
$52
Dated 1961 with the great Jim Cox artwork that makes these early Aurora kits so collectible & popular. This issue has a slightly larger box than earlier ones. This is a very good kit for that time, molded in a beautiful gloss silver & clear, with full landing gear and the clear 'Triangle World Map' stand. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Please note, this is not a reissue of the Comet model. Aurora cut these molds years before acquiring Comet's F-100.

SALE!! Dated 1963. Nicely molded kit that was popular for decades. Feature great Jo Kotula box art, pilot and cockpit, detailed engine, ground crew member and ground display base with wheel chocks. Molded in tan and black plastic. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. This is part of the famous Aurora WWI series of 1/48 scale aircraft. The series began in 1956 and Aurora added new kits into the early 1960s. The line proved incredibly popular, so these kits were included in the 'mold upgrade' in the 1970s before Aurora went out of business.
Wood Model Kit, Box Condition: Good+
$24
Rare 1945 issue. Features detailed three view plans with cutting patterns and sanding templates as well as painting color tips, two sheets of printwood and wood stock. Never started and inventoried 100% complete with all parts, plans and also basic instructions on the back of the box. In the 1930s and 1940s, most modelers built the flying stick and tissue type models with rubber, co2 or gas power. But there were a small but measurable percent that built solid aircraft display models of great detail. This required great skill worthy of the shipbuilders of old, especially considering the limited offerings. Many manufacturers, such as Comet issued blocks of wood and a plan - the famous (or infamous) 'Make Wood Look Like Plane' kits.
